So we are sure on this? We will still get the fmc pop ups etc?

Well Pete, I just nipped out to get a large bag of popcorn just in case.

Glad i got the extra case of beer, things could get more interesting in the next day or so

I only use 2D cockpit for departure and arrival. This is where pilot work load is highest and i need all the important controls and displays in my sight. It's not a step foward to remove something that helps people operate these complex system simulators. Sure its ideal for the sake of 'realism' to pan or look around a 3D virtual cockpit, but there are numerous reasons and occassions where this isn't appropriate.

Lets no forget this is a simulator viewed through a screen which inherits numerous handicaps on the simmer.

That the most important time to use 3d!!

Honestly, I have no idea how anyone does the flying in the 2d cockpit, it is highly unrealisitic and you do not get a feel for being in an aircraft,

LETS GO BACK TO THE FS98 DAYS WOOOOOOOOOOO!

Dear Ken,

There will be 2D pop-up panels avaliable such as the FMC, Eicas display etc........but there won't be a full 2D cockpit like in the NGX, and the 747.

The NGX is not just pop-ups though. It's full 2D, but minus the pedestal. And PMDG did promise a full 2D for the NGX. Even after launch there was brief mention of maybe adding a 2D pedestal in an SP.

Think that ryan has stated there will be no 2d pedestal in a sp

Every body is just thinking...:)

So is there gonna be a full 2D Panel,Personaly i use it just in T/O and in Final(Arrival),to get the best performence, but In Pre flight, taxi, cruise, climb,AND Preapers for Landing i use the VC.

I'll want 2D,I hope there well be one

That probably you will only have the FMS and the MCP maybe, and 2D popups of the displays. But you wont get a 2d overhead for example

The really interesting and furthermore strange behaviour here is that customers argue against their main benefit of being a customer.

This is still having the choice of individual usage, not only in deciding to purchase or not.

It would be totally understandable, if we talk about extremely different layout of 2D Cockpits but 777 and 744 are nearly identically. So here is synergy we'll never see in FSX again

to satisfy all customers not only ~60%, keeping several polls in mind.

Please for the love of God and all things holy; PMDG please provide a 'full time' 2D main forward / MCP panel at least.

I am not alone in my dislike of VC / 3D for the critical stages of flight. It's just too awkward to move the eye, zoom in, read a gauge, flick a switch in the VC when said switch needs to be flicked in less than a second or two....while trying to hand fly a landing / takeoff.

If you care at all about providing a realistic flight deck desktop simulation experience, please provide a 2D panel same as with the NG 73X. I understand the demand for VC panels, they look pretty and provide a different perspective, great for in cruise, taxi, sight seeing, etc....but I am not in a real flight deck, I am sitting in my office viewing the flight deck on a 2D monitor...a 3D/VC panel does not change that, never will.

Please, I am begging you :-)

I am only one of many who will not buy without a 2D flight deck option.

That's the same reason I like having the 2D+3D cockpit panels as well, when in flight I really want to be focusing on flying the plane and it's just a bugger to go through the slow process of looking around in the cockpit, finding the rough area of the switch you need to hit and then zooming in to make sure you hit the right one, then you have to zoom back out to align your screen view back to your preferred setting so you can carry on flying. It's so much easier just to press a sticky key and quickly tap the button and hide the 2D panel again.

I wouldn't mind if PMDG removed some but things like the overhead panel and FMC are crucial, the rest are still nice to have but not so important.

Rob,

If I recall correctly you're a simulator tech/operator right? I finally had the chance to fly a level D NG sim myself a few weeks ago and it was *immediatately* apparent to me that 2D panels are bogus on the basis of how little of the cockpit you can actually see in your normal field of view while flying in the real thing. I found it extremely easy to get tunnel vision and not even notice things like warning lights blinking in the center of the main panel, stuff on the overhead etc. Even the VC view in the NGX shows far too wide a field for what you actually experience in the real cockpit. This is why head scan patterns exist in the real world and I think it's something most simmers never even think about.

Having gotten used to seeing so much of the cockpit at once in FSX actually led me to make a couple of pretty major mistakes while flying the sim simply because I didn't notice things in my field of vision that I'd normally have seen right away on a monitor at home.

The only thing 2d which will remain will be displays which will be clickable to pop out and move to different screens. And fmc i guess.

I hope PMDG will send whole 2d panels in history. We do not really need any panels or popup CDU and displays. You cannot pop up CDU in real aircraft.

Exactly. You can see it all the time when some make posts about how the eyepoint is wrong because they can't see the HUGS and the PFDs.

BTW - Spent 4 hours at LAS waiting for a hotel van. I've never seen an airport like it ever before, between the advertising and casino feel (not that I was surprised). Glad to be outta here?
