This is just a quick note to say that I purchased this aircraft yesterday and it's fantastic. So glad I found a great twin to fly. Miss my Aeroworx Kingair though.....

I agree with you on the Duke. I have both RA Duke's as well as the Legacy and while the Legacy is fun, the Turbine Duke is just that little bit more special to fly.The B60 isn't bad though I must admit to missing the performance of the Turbine whenever I'm flying it.

I see that RA actually sells two Dukes. Turbine and Piston. Do you have both? Is it only the turbine version that is so good?

Both are nice, but the Turbine is newer and a bit more refined. And those PT-6's turn the Duke into an amazing short field airplane. You almost can't believe what you can get into and out of.

 

RealAir's package deal makes getting them pretty much the thing to do, though. I actually bought the package for the B60 (piston) Duke and still like both, but I have quite a few more hours in the Turbine these days.

just a hair slower then a cessna Mustang, but with 4,000 fpm climbs (fully loaded). One engine is more then enough power... two is showing off.

I fly the Turbine Duke more than the Lancair, they are for different purposes.

 

I find the high performance means I can get longer trips higher altitudes and or shorter fields, I use the Turbine for IFR with radar contact.

 

Lancair in VFR, it has great visibility and is a blast to try and land it at the right speed on steep approaches.

 

The other thing to do with the Duke is to turn on random failures (at a low level) to keep you on your toes. Try some single engine takeoffs, landings, and try a gear failure and a gearup belly landing.

One thing that comes to my mind is the turbine engines are harder to model than piston. Hinting at better realism for the piston version.
