dc-3, Cessna Corvalis TT, Beechcraft Duchess or MU-2J Marquise? ?

Featured Replies

I have space in my hangar for one of this.... and I have to commemorate being now a PROUD x-plane10 user, so.....

having in mind that I only have x-plane10 ( I never bought x-plane9 ), which of the three will be better tailored for this platform?

I know they're different, very different, but I like the three almost equally, and I am really not interested in airliners/commuters, so, what would you recommend?

Hi jcomm

I have three of the four aircraft in your list, I don't have the Cessna Corvalis TT.

My choice would be between the Duchess and the Mu2 Marquise. With the DC3 I get an annoying stuttering, my monitor resolution is 1280x1024 and I find the cockpit difficult to set up right and I think with it being a tail dragger you need rudder pedals, which I don't.

I think as they are at the moment in XP10, bearing in mind that both will eventually have a free update(the Mu2 being quite an extensive one) when XP10 is stable, I would recommend Goran's Beechcraft Duchess. Of my add-ons it is the one I fly most, closely followed by the Mu2.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Thx Simon,

I am indeed tempted to buy the Duchess, because really like the airplane, have even flown in one in RL, and also because I bought the Sundowner and with the support from Goran I got it working great in X-plane10, and like it very much... I believe they'll also work on an update for Xp10...

The MU-2 was one of my preferred Hasegawa 1/72 kits, looong ago in the late seventies :-)

You are welcome jcomm.

You say about the support from Goran, and I think this is one of the excellent things with XP. The fact that we are able to communicate with the developers of these add-ons and the time they spend in helping us to make our experience in XP even better is really outstanding. Add to this the communication from the actual programmers(Ben, Chris and others), it really is refreshing and good to know that they are striving to make our XP experience even better.

I also have a 1280x1024 monitor and have NO problems at all with the LES DC3.

For the LES Dc3 are quiet nice, livery-skins-sets available.

When I am flying ( I seldom do) I use my 1920x1200 screen, wich shows the LES DC3 equally good ( only larger)

I do have the MU2 also , quiet nice but it needs a real update to XP10 level.

Made some panits for it , adding normals and stuff.

I am real happy with the MU2.

I do not have the Duchess , I cannot spend the same dollar twice.

I have the LES Duchess and the LES DC-3, and I can't decide which one I like the most, :-) I think the art work on the DC-3 panel is the best, although the Duchess is not far behind, and some people may prefer the Duchess art. The flying, I like the DC-3, it flies so beautifully. Landing, is a chore, I have yet to land a tail dragger without the obligatory hippity hop a couple of times down the runway.

The Duchess flies well to. It is very light on the controls, as it is rumored to be in real life, (I don't have real life experience on a Duchess, I have set at the controls of a flying DC-3, in 1997 in Grand Prairie Tx, although I did not get to take off or land it).

These two are the only ones of the set you ask about, so can only comment on these. I know this isn't much help in persuading you which way to go, but I don't think you will be disappointed in any of the selections you make. I would not be fearful of any plane that Leading Edge Simulations had a hand in.

I have never had a stutter with the DC-3, or the Duchess for that matter, I fly with a 27 in monitor at 1920x1200 and a 46 in at 1920x1080, I am usually on the larger monitor.

Having said all of this, I would vote for the LES DC-3. :P

Well,

thank you all for your suggestions... The new kid in town is now LES DC-3 :-)

I look forward to get back home tonight and install it....

BTW: Does anyone know where I could possibly find a paintjob in the colors of "TAP" (Transportes Aéreos Portugueses) the former designation of the Airline of Portugal ?

Hi,

I highly recommend the LES DC3. It's a fantastic add-on, especially to hand-fly. I've got a Buttkicker Gamer too.

Yes...I know I'm a sucker for gimmicks. With this little beauty, when you put the DC3 to full throttle, it'll shake your teeth out!!!

Gotcha! You're not married/have a girlfriend living with you... right ? :-)

They could never understand such a piece of hardware, and even less it's effects.... :-)

Well... unless you can sell her the idea that it can be used to combat/avoid celulite too ;-), which will probably take you a bunch of flight time.... :-(

As far as I know, it has not been done for the LES DC3

LES dc-3?

Simply AMAZING!!!!!

My best buy, after X-Plane10 itself :-)

P.S.: I have to ask Austin for some correction to the seas... Waves even if not visible <re too intense.... It's difficult to "steer" my dc-3 floats in river Tagus ....

On previous version there was some way to set the sea conditions, but I do not see it in X-Plane10 :-/

To set the wave height go to Environment\Weather make sure weather is set for global uniformity, look on the right side just above the graphic for the weather and the set wave adjustments are still there. Apparently you have to reset the wave height each time you run the sim or at least if you change form downloading real weather, as I see my settings are for a 2 foot wave level, I generally keep them at a 0.1 wave height.

Lol...married yes. She calls it the 'butt tickler'. Usually she doesn't mind me using flight Sim except when I turn the 'butt tickler' on, because it shakes the entire house.
