Ordered x-plane 10 but perhaps regretting it

I have now ordered X-Plane 10 but have a number of issues - I have registered on the x-plane forum on xplane-org but cannot create new posts for some reason despite a succesful acknowleded registration and acknowledged confirmation hence the post here - have sent messages to the administrators and moderators but no one has yet bothered to reply or even acknowledge my requests. This worries me. Is this typical. So I will post here instead.

 

My issues are all newbie questions:-

1) While I am waiting for my bought copy to arrive can I load purchased planes (like the B777) on the demo copy but then use them later on the bought copy

2) I can't seem to work out how to see more of the panel in one go e.g. move my view backward a little. I can see keys for move view backwards though I can move forwards etc. but they don't seem to do what I expect (I come from FS where there are keys to move your viewpoint backwards with respect to the panel). I also can't see any difference between 2d and 3d cockpits for the planes I am using. Is this because the demo planes only have 2d cockpits. Can anyone recommend the best plane in the demo to show a 3 d virtual style cockpit and best fllight model

3) I find the plane drifts strongly to the right. I know there are propeller effects but this seems very strong

4) Are there any trim indicators so I can see what is happening when I trim pitch and rudder (to deal with 3 above)

 

As I said I am beginning to regret the purchase because of the above but understand the complexity of a flight simulator. I do fly small planes and the Xplane as default seem over sensitive and is difficult to trim But I am sure that there are ways of dealing with the above. The lack of response from admins on x-plane on x-plane-org forum so far is not very good.

Hi,

 

Yes, you can load planes and everything else. The main restriction on the demo is one location of scenery and 15 minutes of flight control time.

 

when you get the discs, be sure to go to x-plane.com and download the installer. the information I read says to NOT use the installer on the DVDs.

 

Also, delete your demo folder but BACKUP your purchased/downloaded planes first. My standard practice is to download all items to a folder, extract the planes there and then copy them as needed. This way I should not lose my downloaded content.

 

To see more of a panel you need to use the shift-9 keyboard shortcut to use the 3D panel. The panel shown with the W key is pretty static.

 

There are threads here and on the x-plane.org forums about tweaking flight models via settings. The Settings menu is daunting at first. I would pause the sim and take time reviewing the different settings.

 

Hopefully this will help and reduce your frustration a little.

Believe me, X-Plane10 is simply the best / most complete flight simulation platform on the PC / MAC / Linux market today!

 

It does have a leraning curve though.

 

My best advice - don't give up easily!

 

Tony pretty much answered all you have asked. I would just add, assuming you have vanilla controllers (joystick, etc...):

 

1) In the joystick conf menus set stability augmentation to 100% on all axis

2) Set the inputs from linear by at least 30% in pitch and bank, and 60% in yaw.

JCOMM is right, i haven't touched my other flight sims(FS9, FSX, P3D, DCS A10) in over a week since i got XPLANE10. My settings are all maxed out but HDR is off and it looks amazing, especially with the realistic roads and traffic. I also bought the CRJ 200 by JROLLON and it's simply beautiful. Later today I will buy the new 777.

I can see that it is indeed typical, except the typical is on you and your end. You DIDN'T bother to read the forum's requirements or rules, otherwise you would know in order to protect themselves from spam and bots one must first answer two,(2), previous posts. So if you can find another post that is like or akin to your question you might start there with your question. Or what I did go to some post that was somewhat ordinary and just say hi, or something to that effect. :rolleyes: A couple of times like that and you are good to go.

 

Remember different forums may have different rules. Doesn't hurt to read them.

And ... just in case: some people (especially X-Plane newbies) often think that x-plane.org is the (official) forum of Laminar Research. No, it is not. It is simply a forum dedicated to flight simulation like avsim, but specialised to X-Plane. Hope this helps B).

Hi everybody, I'll be getting X-plane 10 soon too! I really think I'm going to like it. IMO, it's the best simulation software on the market. But it does look like it does have a learning curve. But I'm pretty new to X-plane 10 too. I used to have X-plane 9, but didn't like it that much. But for now it looks like I'll be liking XPX. So don't give up and have fun with it, just like I will also!

For those still reluctant all I can say for now is - wait for the upcoming 64 bit version. That will (again) make X-Plane10 unique!!! Then maybe you'll feel more comfortable with your investment.

 

Buying X-Plane10 and a couple of good add-ons represented having to wait until Christmas to consider buying rudder pedals, so, I understand most of you find that €69,90 are difficult to get out of the pocket.... Happily I found it was my best investment in flight simulation in the last 10 years...

I look forward to 64-bit so I can get a little bit better frame rate. Just upgraded to the ATI Radeon HD 5770 on my 2008 Mac Pro running 12GB of memory.

 

Any suggestions on improving FPS are appreciated. At this time I can get high 30's. Not running HDR and clouds are down to I think 20%, maybe 25%. Still playing with settings as the new card was installed this morning.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64x and X-Plane runs way better on it than FSX. I just bought the Boeing 777 Professional from the Avsim store, and did a beautiful flight with it.

I am really still a newby with X-Plane 10, but I really like a lot of things about it. The Controller interface is much better than FSX, for one thing.

To other newbies, you will get frustrated with trying to discover how to control the "Views", but hang in there. X-Plane does have good view controls for virtual cockpit and outside. Check YouTube videos for tutorials. I seen one with Austin going through all of the view controls and they are very good.

Everything is there (Views, Controls, key mapping), it's just a matter of us hard-core FSXers finding them. I'm just starting to get comfortable with X-Plane.

Yep, it may look somehow exaggerate, but I am taking into account the amount of detail with wich you can model not only fixed wing aircraft, but also variable geometry, vectored thrust, rotary wing, rocket, lighter than air, etc...

 

If one reads the recent description of how starter motors are implemented it is evident that we have no such level of detail, by default, in any other platform. There used to be a good B-200 (Aeroworx) for fs9/ that tried to exhaustively model the various aspects of the PT-6 turboprop, up to the possibility of hot start when the fuel was not introduced at the right moment... Even so it felt far from what we can, by default, model on a turboprop in X-Plane10. Well, it's also possible in ELITE's B200, but you have to spend a "fortune" on proper hardware ( TQ ) to be able to follow the exact RL procedures...

 

Regarding the free-running turbine type, I know the LR team will address the fuel flow innacuracies presently observable when one varies Prop RPM whithout varying "throttle"...
