Michael Greenblatt - FS has lost an Icon....

Recommended Posts

So sorry to hear of Michael's passing - he was a huge help to me on two separate installations and I enjoyed flying online with him and Jay on many occasions.

Mike was one of a kind, and he had awesome talent; he will be sorely missed. My condolences to his family.

Deeply affected by learning of Michaels passing.

My condolences to his family and (many) friends.

I, too, was a very satisfied client of Michael. True he did wonders with my FS9 installation but I will remember him more for his incredible patience, good humour and educative ability. Thanks to him we do indeed understand a little more. An exceptional man and a truly great loss to our community.

Blue skies Michael.

I also did not know Michael but any loss to this community is a loss of family. Condolences to his family.

I have to confess that at first, I thought Mike's service to the community was a bit, well, deserving of skepticism. Over time, however, Mike's perseverance, contributions and his service were indeed positive contributions to the community. Those contributions benefited many, including those posting in this remembrance topic.

Let me add my condolences on behalf of AVSIM. We are always deeply impacted, and saddened, by the passing of members of our family - our community. The entirety of the AVSIM staff offer our sincere condolences to Mike's family, and we offer up our collective prayers for Mike.

I had an opportunity to use Michaels FS-GS product as well. He definetely had character.

A few years ago, I was on a KSNA overnight.(Southwest pilot). I had contacted Michael beforehand; before I flew out the next day; we ha an opportunity to meet.

What an enjoyable experience to meet Michael and his wife. The man I met and had lunch with that day; was nothing like the "character" we sometimes experienced on our FS-GS sessions.:-)

But, as we have all noted; Michael had the utmost passion for lfight sims and helping each of us to try and achieve the best out of our systems for that same enjoyment and passion.

My God! What a shock!

Like othes here, I am deeply saddened by the loss of the amazing man. He was a true specialist.

I remember the time I began to have issues - most notably the dreaded Out-Of-Memory Errors - with my FS9 installation. Many of our members over at British Airways Virtual and others outside of the Organisation mentioned Mike and his services. On the first email exchange, I was sceptical. However, ultimately I allowed him completely free reign when we began the task of "unifying" my PC to get the best of FS9.

Mike knew things about FS and Windows that even the experts at Microsoft didn't! Wow, what a difference he made! People said he was capable of miraculous things with Flight Simulator - well, he certainly was! The change was truely dramatic. And I was going to consult him about moving on to FSX one day soon .....

I'm kind of stunned really. I never knew about his illness and I suspect many others didn't know either. Such an aggressive and dreafful disease that took him from us. I never met him although I had planned to on one of our trips Stateside. But it never happened. I believe Mike lived in Long Beach but originally came from New Jersey.

***********************

British Airways Virtual will dedicate OverNighter 11, our October overnight long haul event, our last one for 2012, to Mike's memory. A tragic loss! Our sincere condolences to his wife and family - our thoughts are with them.

"Cleared to Flight Level Infinity and Beyond - Mike, take your place among the heavens my friend"

My condolences to Michael and his family.

I first used his service in 2006 when he took FS9 on an old, underpowered machine and made it dance. While I think all of us probably encountered the tough, cranky guy Mike, I continued to use his service for several other builds over the years and the transition to FSX - and I learned more from him about personal computers and how to optimize performance for this particularly piece of software then from any single person.

I always considered his service a bargain - and given the hours he spent on the phone with me, I know it was, despite some of the distractors he gained along the way (true, his customer service model wasn't exactly the Apple Store). So while we have many sources of info on the web to dabble in the FSX shadow hobby (modifying and tinkering with FSX, vice actually flying), I'll miss his dry humor and sometimes headstrong approach - and his true mastery of delivering an outstanding flight experience. You could never argue with the results of comprehensive approach. He was unique indeed - and fun to fly with in multiplayer. Rest in peace, Michael.

I've just heard the news of Michael's passing. I spoke with him last week. He was definitely improving - just typical of Michael's attitude to life.

I'll miss his unrivalled knowledge of FSX and computers, but by far most of all I'll miss him as a friend.

His loyal family will miss him more than any of us, of course, and I'd like to add my sincere sympathy with them in their loss.

Bye, Michael.

I exchanged an email not long ago finding out about his condition. I am so sorry to hear about his passing. He was an amazing person who shared an enormous amount of knowledge and passion for flight simulation. Those of us who got to know him will always be grateful for all that he has done to help us enjoy our simulation to the cutting edge!

He was a good man and may you rest in peace Michael, you will be missed!

Thanks again for everything you have done for me.

It's a rare occasion that i post these days, but to let this pass without offering my condolences would be to do a disservice to Michael I feel.

It's been a long time since Mike sorted my FSX machine. He did such a good job of it, and taught me so much that i've never needed to go back to him. My machine works a little beyond its capabilities, and when i have issues i know just what to do, thanks to Mike.

Mike wasn't everyones cup of tea. It's been alluded to here, but his gruffness and straight talking suited me right down to the ground. Say what you mean, and mean what you say. Words to live by, and my Michael did. He was a kind, caring, funny man, who helped so many of us, get more from our hobbies, and understand the technicalities a little better.

Rest in peace Michael.
