An Interview with Lockheed Martin - P3D

Recommended Posts

At this point in time, Noel - if you have the $$ you can purchase ANY version. As I understand it, the "weapons" EULA will relate to specific built in weapons suppport not necessarily an add-on that supports weapons. Stop worrying and go enjoy P3D - the men in black are NOT going to be breaking down your door.

Thanks for that. Just out of curiosity, why all of the language in the EULAs that makes me walk away wondering if I needed to ask this question? What was the purpose of defining education levels and so forth? I think at this moment in time the real rationale for me for buying in to P3D is so I can upgrade to version 2, which I hope supports some of the nice looking coding improvements such as DX11 and better multiprocessor support.

Cheers,

Noel

LOL! It's just lawyers coverins their rear ends. *IF* some day you were using P3D for entertainment and you got SO excited you fell out of your chair and broke your arm and then tried to sue LM - they could point to the EULA and say - See! We told him not to use it that way!"

Frankly, I am really enjoying 1.4 and, like you, am really waiting for 2.0.

Thank you Vic for helping demystify this for me. I guess I'll pick up a copy to support the cause. Can't see any reason to leave FSX yet for now, but if there is any possibility (from what are saying, it sounds like this also is an unjustified concern) of not being able to obtain version 2 if I didn't get in now?

After seeing the video of a levelD MD-11 sim being used to perform a touch 'n' go on an aircraft carrier all this nonsense about what can or can't be used for entertainment went out the window for me.

Can't wait for P3D v2.0.

Here's the video, just for record.

You are right, there is nothing wrong with being entertained while you train or become educated, but a "game" by definition is a competitive sport played by a set of rules and decided by skill, strength, or luck (dictionary.com).

No fewer than four of my brood, out of a total of seven, have made very successful careers from skills that started as games in their primary school years. During my years in the RAAF I met several who had started out with paper airplanes and kites and graduated through serious models to the seat of an F 18A and on to become commercial airline pilots.

The hero of the Qantas A380 flight out of Singapore that lost an engine, is a case in point.

One can not separate games from learning, nor entertainment and learning. They go hand in hand, the objective of teachers the world over is to make learning an enjoyable experience for their students.

I still believe we are dancing around the question of 'marketing' and 'distributing' as an entertainment product. *ANY* product can be USED for entertainment. That is a no brainer.
