September 16, 201213 yr Their livery never gets old, but I do imagine a new one, should they emerge from bankruptcy successfully. September 16, 201213 yr Commercial Member God guys, I find the American livery one of the ugliest in the aviation world, so unimaginative and ugly.. I am personally surprised with the love for it here! .. Alex Ridge Join Fswakevortex here! YOUTUBE and FACEBOOK
September 16, 201213 yr I hope American can buy US Airways, be great not to see them around anymore, they bought Piedmont and destroyed one of the best airlines ever. "Warm southern hospitality will be replaced with cool northern efficiency", anyone remember that quote ?, Actually Norfolk Southern sold their share of Piedmont to US Air and they were merged. The most likely scenario will be US Airways buying American but the American Airlines brand will remain with US Airways disappearing.
September 16, 201213 yr  I do also like the livery of American. Very different and gives a 'raw' feeling to the aircraft. Well seriously, though. Nothing's better than sitting at the airport on a sunny day waiting for your flight and watching those American airplanes give you headaches as you watch them. i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
September 16, 201213 yr Commercial Member Why such strong feelings either way? While the livery is part of the corporate image, updating it is nice. I remember being somewhat upset that UAL changed theirs a while ago, but looking back at the old stealths, I wonder what I found so attractive with them. I can't say I hate the current AAL scheme, but it's not my favorite either. My camera certainly takes a disliking to it (as it does to just about anything high contrast that's moving quickly). That said, it can be very photogenic, if you catch it right. The doors on the NGs are already painted grey, which is really tacky looking on the otherwise completely chromed look. As pointed out, the incoming 'buses and 78s need to get a different treatment, so why not? Change is good. If you don't believe me, go track down your first car, return it to (or keep it at) whatever the prevailing "in" color was, and drive it around for the rest of your life. Times change. Images change. Sure, some designs are timeless, but what looked good on a 72 might not look good as good on the planes of the future. Case. In. Point: These colors were "in" back then... Kyle Rodgers
September 16, 201213 yr God guys, I find the American livery one of the ugliest in the aviation world, so unimaginative and ugly.. I am personally surprised with the love for it here! .. Whaaaat?! The American Livery is awesome!! Just love all the reflections that come off it whenever it lines up on the runway, all the piano keys reflecting off it is just awesome! One of the best liveries in the world I feel! September 16, 201213 yr I hope the logo at least stays the same, an aviation icon and the Eagle is the namesake of their regional carrier which has a far more original name vs all the express and connects outs there. As for the cargo doors on the NG's not every 737 has the grey look, some are chrome. Alex Jevdic KORD/KHOT/KPWKA<380 love at first flight
September 16, 201213 yr Sad for me-the American colors have been the favorite for me since I was a kid in the 60's as was the airline with one of the longest traditions. New isn't always better but it does seem one needs to reach a certain age to appreciate that... short term thinking IMHO will kill the goose. Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
September 17, 201213 yr Author I'm told the problem with metallic paint is that it is heavier than non metallic. I am kind of nervous about what they come up with because there are a few new liveries in the industry that I feel are quite bad. Of course I'd like to see us go back to that 1957 paint job like we used to have on one of the 757s. As far as US Airways goes I think the likelihood of that is increasing. US Airways is going to try to buy us in bankruptcy. They've been very clear about that. Our management has finally given in to the fact nobody in the industry supports the stand alone carrier business plan. Plus all the other airlines our management was hinting they were talking with about mergers have come out very publicly saying there have never been talks about mergers and they don't plan on entertaining any. Our guys have accepted that US Airways is the only real candidate left and are now trying to beat them to the punch so AMR management will retain control of the airline. Really ? Well, I like change. Hope they come up with something good. I also hope God guys, I find the American livery one of the ugliest in the aviation world, so unimaginative and ugly.. I am personally surprised with the love for it here! .. I prefer Alaska Airlines Nothing is official
September 17, 201213 yr I would prefer they didn't change it. With their old A300's they simply painted the composite stuff grey and it didn't look bad. Some airlines need to change their colors or logos. The merged UAL/COA looks awkward for instance. Richie Walsh
September 17, 201213 yr As for the cargo doors they are in the process of painting them grey on all the planes. They say that they were getting so scratched up that they just decided to paint them. In my opinion the scratches are way less noticeable and more uniform than the painted doors. They are also in the process of painting the lower aft section of the fuselage on all the planes. they say it is because that area is more sensitive to fluids running back than they originally though. All the composites on all the planes are painted grey. Originally all but one of the A300s were painted completely grey. There was one aluminum one flying around as a test plane. Once Airbus approved having them unpainted the grey ones were stripped of their paint (except the composites). Another interesting one was that the MD-80s had unpainted tails at one point but they are all painted now. I don't know if there was a mechanical reason they did that or if they just did it to make all the planes look the same. Tom Landry
September 18, 201213 yr Author They want to like all airlines, change the paint. Finally , it will not be so bad as we think ?
September 18, 201213 yr I was thinking of instead of chrome, that can be white, but blue and red on white, for some reason reminds me of Colgate, and the blue and red stripes will look really old on a hits surface, and so the chrome was what made it really stand out. Who else likes just being able to look at their NG and go, "that's a new one," because honestly, you can always tell the newest of the new with the American livery.
September 18, 201213 yr Or they could do what Eagle does and paint the plane white. Alex Jevdic KORD/KHOT/KPWKA<380 love at first flight
