June 29, 200421 yr While I'm still cleaning up some blood from the dead horse I feel this argument is for the most part (after this many posts & in great part thanks to me), I will say that you actually encapsulated my viewpoint in your last post. People would mention SID/STARs, better autogen, 10m mesh etc.. as you stated & would otherwise want things improved overall. In a post I made much ealier in this thread, I stressed efficiency, which is exactly how you described the goal of an "gaming engine" in similar terms. You also mentioned most of us are stuck at ~30fps with respectable eye candy & other resources & you're absolutely right (some even less).**** With that information in mind, my argument that an "engine rewrite" would be necessary to complete a wishlist was & is based soley on the reality of the efficiency of the current code. It's just not efficient enough to process resources in a manner that would allow for the many things people want (short of a 10.0GHz liquid nitrogen cooled Pentium 8) ****Cheers.
June 29, 200421 yr One argument FOR a new engine: Travel in space and polar extremes (yes, we need a new engine for that). One argument AGAINST a new engine: If they change the Physics-Airfile-FDE structure we are officially @#$#@!ed! It took the FDE gurus 5 years to make some sense. Regards,

June 29, 200421 yr I just wish that someone would develop Flight Unlimited 4. I really don't like MSFS, and I would prefer a new flight simulator that includes those features that are important to ME.Chris Low. June 29, 200421 yr Ryan, 3D cards have been around since the days of FS98 (actually that's about the time the 3D revolution started at least as far as Flight Simulator is concerned). FS98 ran like crap unless you had a 3D video card...Video cards were well established on the market by the time the CFS2 engine came into being... June 29, 200421 yr Allcott if one wanted to post 10 threads on the same subject that's their prerogative. You don't work for Avsim and therefore should have nothing to say. Just don't post in the thread that's a repeat (so you say). I'm tired of hearing your whining about what I've done here. It's really none of your business and shouldn't matter to you one way or another. I agree maybe I should have kept my post in the other thread but I chose not to because of how I felt about the subject. Your comments about my actions are pointless, furthermore there's nothing you can do about the existence of these two threads but deal with it.... If someone including myself chooses to do this same thing again what can you do or are going to do about it, nothing... Your first post was valid but all the rest of this mess your trying to start more so makes it look like your trying to boost up your own divine intelligence which is not working... June 29, 200421 yr Well, as this thread has descended the spiral to mediocrity and mudslinging, even from you, I'll think I'll stick to the intellient conversation `over there`. QED. Allcott

June 29, 200421 yr Allcott:"I'm sorry Alex, but this is exactly the same as the post that started this particular thread. You have nothing to contribute to the debate except the sound of your own `voice`. We gain nothing in this thread from your proselytizing. Your eloquence disguises the plain fact that you have nothing to say on the subject, so you really should have kept quiet or started this discussion in another forum."This portion of your reply demonstrates my point, and is the reason I usually don't post in threads with these (my perception) dynamics. You are entitled to your opinions, and to say what you'd like in a manner of your choosing. How it comes across to others may be different from what you intend. I thought some might wish to consider that(you may not, of course), as this is, for the most part, an intriguing thread.
June 29, 200421 yr Commercial Member Hi Ovquist, "A new game engine could be more frame rate friendly and yet offer better visuals really."You can try already a new engine called lomac, the performance will remain a issue no matter which engine you had and any programmer in the world. It's easy to understand you will have better performance if the sim contains limited feature and less detailed stuff, such a 2d clouds sprite limited layers, and others reduced thing feature capability complexity on area, object, reduced texutre size and everything lowe to improve performance etc, or you can have superior graphics and everything like lomac http://www.lo-mac.com/ and far cry http://www.farcry.ubi.com/ or others type and get your system down. Worse in Msfs, there is always the addition of the 3rd party users have high resolution setting, AA and Anasotropy + add the more complex 3rd party download that's reduce your performance, there will be no more room for the dreaming performance.X-plane use open gl and still limited on performancevisual andnothing WOW at all, still behind Msfs. Where is the miracle of such of a new engine and everything, FlyI, FlyII, x-plane, FuIII,Cfs3, Msfs series.Called new engine:Remember FlyIII at their release all the bugs and peformance. FUIII was not Flyable at the release. CFS3 new engine=? Msfs series?Did you even install fs2000? it's a constant stutter from the start you load the sim with a 3ghz and any cards. Why We never saw a good engine on Any Flight Simulator.ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs Kind RegardsChris Willis

FS98 ran like>crap unless you had a 3D video card...>>Video cards were well established on the market by the time>the CFS2 engine came into being...If that means 16 bit color, bilinear filtering, small stretched textures (something that's still plauging MSFS), and no usuable AA or AF, then sure, cards were established then... The next FS needs to support the new stuff like pixel and vertex shaders, environment maps, full bump mapping, and large texture support so the terrain and roads can look better. The only way to do that is to write a new renderer... Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
