September 17, 201213 yr Ultimate Alaska X Tongass Fjords X They both seem to be doing similar things. I realize UAX has the whole Alaska, while TFX concentrates on just a small area of Alaska. Is the small concentrated area of TFX much better done than UAX overall? I know people will say get both but I don't feel like spending that much at the moment. I'm looking to somewhat cheaply enhance water airports mainly.
September 17, 201213 yr Moderator I have both. For the area it covers, Tongass is exceptional. UT Alaska is much broader in scope and extremely well done. It's really a crap shoot but if you MUST only get one - I'd go for UTX. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
September 17, 201213 yr They are both excellent products. I have both. UTX will improve the whole Alaska. Tongas fjord covers a small area but extends the FTX Pacific Fjords further North. Tongas Fjord is extremely high quality scenery similar to FTX. So, what do you fly? If you fly along the West Coast from PNW to Alaska, it is best to have both. September 17, 201213 yr I only have Tongass but it is exceptionally good. I do have other UTX products (Canada, USA) and as good as they are, they are bit bland in comparison to FTX and Tongass, but UTX obviously covers a much larger area. September 17, 201213 yr Author You guys keep saying UTX? I assume you all mean UAX. UTX covers the lower 48 states only.
September 17, 201213 yr You guys keep saying UTX? I assume you all mean UAX. UTX covers the lower 48 states only. No they mean UTX (Ultimate Terrain X) referring to the Alaska product. For some reason Scenery Solutions deviated from their normal naming conventions on the Alaska product. There is actually a UTX USA, UTX Canada, UTX Europe, and a UTX Tropical America and Caribbean as well as Ultimate Alaska X. All of which are commonly reffered to in general as UTX products.
September 17, 201213 yr Author I have UTX USA and while nice it is rather generic and inaccurate for details. I was under the impression that UAX was much more refined, detailed oriented and accurate compared to the other UTX 'broad paintbrush' products. Is this an incorrect assumption?
September 17, 201213 yr I have UTX USA and while nice it is rather generic and inaccurate for details. I was under the impression that UAX was much more refined, detailed oriented and accurate compared to the other UTX 'broad paintbrush' products. Is this an incorrect assumption? I have UTX USA, Canada, Europe, and Alaska, and while the first three are a definite improvement over default FSX, i would say that UTX Alaska goes the extra mile for a even more detailed product that their other offerings.
September 17, 201213 yr UTX Alaska incorporated some new autogen features and more detail however, it is still some what generic. Tongass Fjords on the other hand is quite detailed and on par with Orbx sceneries. Comparing one to the other is like comparing apples to oranges.
September 17, 201213 yr i havent seen this tongass Fjords product...im just relating my experiences with the UTX products
September 18, 201213 yr enhance water airports mainly. VeryBumpy, Here's an excerpt for the Tongass Fjords Manual: 3. Listed seaplane bases (28) At all seaplane bases you'll find at least a dock and in many cases much more, like boats, static or dynamic birds, settlements, and floatplane AI traffic with prototypical repaints. Wherever possible, we modeled and placed structures and objects based on photographs and maps; several locations actually use a photoreal ground texture. Please note: When starting a flight at a seaplane base and selecting the active runway (instead of a specific runway direction or a parking spot) FS will place the user at the start location of the FSX default seaplane base's location, which may be on land. Thus, please always select either a parking spot or a specific direction of the water runway at any of the seaplane bases listed below. 16K, Port Alice, N55*48' W133*36' 19P, Port Protection, N56*19' W133*37' photoreal area 2Z1, Entrance Island, N57*25' W133*26' 2Z6, False Island, N57*31' W135*13' 57A, Tokeen, N55*55' W133*20' 63A, Petersburg, N56*48' W132*58' 68A, Wrangell, N56*28' W132*24' 96Z, North Whale, N56*06' W133*07' photoreal area A23, Saginaw, N56*53' W134*09' A29, Sitka, N57*03' W135*21' photoreal area AGN, Angoon, N57*29' W134*34' photoreal area AHP, Port Alexander, N56*15' W134*39' photoreal area AK62, Nichin Cove, N55*51' W133*13' photoreal area AQC, Klawock, N55*33' W133*06' photoreal area BNF, Warm Spring Bay, N57*05' W134*49' CAH9, Telegraph Creek, N57*55' W131*11' CGA, Craig, N55*28' W133*09' photoreal area CYM, Chatham, N57*30' W134*57' HYG, Hydaburg, N55*12' W132*50' photoreal area KAE, Kake, N56*57' W133*57' photoreal area KCC, Coffman Cove, N56*00' W132*50' photoreal area KPB, Point Baker, N56*21' W133*37' KWF, Waterfall, N55*17' W133*15' PEC, Pelican, N57*57' W136*14' photoreal area PWR, Port Walter, N56*23' W134*39' TKE, Tenakee, N57*46' W135*13' photoreal area WSB, Steamboat Bay, N55*32' W133*38' Z71, Cape Pole, N55*58' W133*48' photoreal area 4. September 18, 201213 yr I only have Tongass Fjords, and it's really a great place for bush flying. As I see you're into water/amphibious planes, I'd say, TFX is the right thing for you. As I said, I don't have UTX Alaska (or UAX, as you call it), but from my experience with UTX Europe, Tongass Fjords is way better, but restricted to a smaller area, though. As Sargeski pointed out, there are really lots of water airports, the smaller of which even freeze in hard winters, so you can land there with ski planes. And it comes with own autogen, places loads of trees(really looks like woods now), glaciers etc. And it even adds/replaces the airport buildings of the larger airprorts as PASI(Sitka) and PAWG(Wrangell). Regards, Flo Florian
September 18, 201213 yr Author Yeah, sounds like Tongass Fjords X is more of what I want. Now to find who sells it at the best deal, PCAviator nor AVSIM don't sell it for some reason.

September 18, 201213 yr Author Yeah, those seem to be the only sites selling Tongass. Very nice screenshot comparison here btw. They don't seem to compare UTX Alaska however. http://www.flightsimplaza.com/tongass//TongassX/Tongass_Fjords_X_comp/TongassX_comp_airfields.html
