What's your music when flying?

Recommended Posts

I often listen to KVOD, a Coloradan public radio station that broadcasts classical music. Thanks to the magic of the internet I can listen to them even though I live 8 timezones away and have never been to Colorado in my life (closest I've been is the Grand Canyon). Always fun to hear the 'Sunrise Serenade' at 2 in the afternoon, and the 'Midday Getaway' at 8 in the evening :).

Other times I'll listen to more modern stuff, from fluffy pop songs to lighter metal, and everything in between.

spotify...

I have a number of playlists... and sometimes I choose playlist radio and listen to similar songs to those that are already in my library

Even as a musician, I never feel like listening while flying. Unless it's real life and I'm a passenger. :P

Usually I get a flight going and then just do homework during the cruise.

Plus running iTunes takes up extra system resources that I don't want to spare.

any genre that does not include the word 'heavy'....

Just the opposite from me: heavy metal for flying heavy metal... yeah! Big%20Grin.gif Although now I'm prefering to listen to ATC and the engines... and a good reading in the meantime.

Found the Coffee House channel on XM is great to fly with. We dropped into Henderson last night and the acoustic music went well with the glowing of the lights and the hills around the area.

At this very moment? A certain LAX tower controller who can give me landing and takeoff clearances all day long. :D Check Live ATC to see what I'm talking about!

EDIT: Darn, I think she's gone off shift.

I listen to music almost any time the computer is powered up. I enjoy flying the "crosshairs plus" scenery placement tool which has some cool "jet pack" flight dynamics (it's a heli that someone worked over). It has no VC so I get a clear view with no panels whatsoever and I actually deleted the sound.cfg so I can hear the music better. I like to fly it around my scenery projects while listening to Breaking Benjamin, Seether, Shinedown, etc. It's a kick to blast along at 120 kts just a few feet above the ground while listening to "Five Finger Death Punch - The Bleeding" or "Forty Six & 2" from Tool. Somehow I missed "Mother Love Bone" in the 90's so "Gentle Groove" is my current favorite song (this week anyway) "Breaking Benjamin - You Fight Me" is awesome to fly with as well. Not really into "flying theme" type music, but "The Tragically Hip - Silver Jet" might qualify.

Dean Martin putting a bun in the stewardess' oven and telling Burt Lancaster that if Runway xyz isn't cleared of snow, then to hell with Noise Abatement! Anyway, on my last flight I was listening to some various Star Trek music . Spock would make a very good First Officer on an airliner too. If I fly today I think it might be The Doors.

I like the 80's Hard Rock and (classic only!) Heavy Metal. But I usually put some live atc of my local airport or my destination one.
