September 26, 201213 yr I like Steam. Easy to purchase, easy to download, and easy to backup and restore. Automatic updates are great as well. Seeing how all the various ways we have of adding on to FSX from Flight1 to PMDG and ORBX ETC that there never was any standards in the MSFS world so I think Steam is a great platform by comparison exception being for MS Flight of course but MS never opened that up to third party developers so now its gone. September 26, 201213 yr You don't need to open Steam to run a game. Just have Steam create a desktop or start menu shortcut for the game. How do you do that? I have an icon for the simulator, but it launches Steam. I can't find an option within Steam to create a shortcut icon for the sim. John
September 27, 201213 yr I literally cringe eveytime someone criticizes Steam without probable cause... Steam is easily the best, most efficient, intelligent, clean piece of software on my computer. I don't see how it is at ALL possible to DISLIKE it?! As a gamer/simmer, I see quite a few complaints about Steam around the net; many people just don't seem to like it for various reasons such as registration problems and stuff. And you can't give a Steam game away to pals because it'll only work on your computer via your personal Steam account, not on theirs.

John Drag the Icon from Steam over to your Desktop and it will create a Desktop Shortcut. Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

John In the list of games in your library, right click on the game you want to create the shortcut for. There should be an option in the right click menu to create a desktop shortcut.

There should be an option in the right click menu to create a desktop shortcut. Awesome! That worked--it's nice to be able to go straight into the sim. Thanks! John Also I should note that I haven't used the sim in a while, so the 2013 update loaded up today. I much prefer the new user interface to the sim, it's very nice. One great thing about the sim is the automatic updates to a new version--you don't have to spend any money for the updates. So the sim has evolved in the 2+ years that I've had it.
