Europe/UK - lack of graphical variety

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I'm wondering if someone has some ideas for this. I'm flying mostly around the UK/Europe and I have both GEX and UTX. I find myself disappointed with the lack of visual variety when travelling between these countries. Everywhere in Europe and the UK I go I find myself seeing the same old field textures repeated endlessly and the same old Urban textures to the point where there feels like very little difference between flying into London and flying into Munich.

I've seen pictures of these places and they are actually fairly diverse with fields of all different shapes, sizes and colours. Building styles are also very different. Does anyone know of any other addons that could help with this? I know photo-scenery is an option (some amazing ones exist for the UK) but the issue here is that they are hugely expensive in terms of disk space (the packages themselves are expensive too) and I don't really want to go spending thousands on SSD storage just to house them all. Not to mention that auto-gen generally doesn't work well with these addons and the flatness would bother me when flying low.

Any ideas? I appreciate there probably isn't much that can be done about this but I thought I should ask. Maybe one day Flight 1 will release an improved version of GEX Europe that has more localized texture-sets around the continent?

Hah. Welcome to Europe. USA is fairly more developed in that sense, and has all those nice addons like Megascenery, ORBX etc. Europe doesn't. Sorry to say.

I wonder if UK2000 airport scenery will be compatible with the OrbX sceneries. That will be a big question for a lot of people I would imagine since it is unlikely they (OrbX) will attempt to recreate all of those airports with the level of detail that Gary Summons has.

I also see Flight 1 is gearing up to release a major update for GEX Europe which will add and improve textures but I still lament the lack of authenticity in English cities. Everything seems flat and lifeless and the urban areas don't remotely resemble anything I've seen in Google Maps. Don't even get me started on Ireland which, even with GEX & UTX, is depicted with no more than a single texture. It brings much sadness to my heart to see the most beautiful and vibrant parts of the world not shown in all their true glory.

See the thread I started a few days ago, we discussed a lot of similar stuff

As long as UK2000 airports are above the OrbX entries in the scenery library, they should work... now as to how well they will blend in is another matter, as UK2000 is optimized for Horizon VFR more...

There are some good pieces of European scenery if you look, Spain is in sections but are some of the best available for free, Canary Islands photorealistic is also very good, and of course there's the new Netherlands that came out last week, but I agree with you the UK looks pretty much the same if your in the lake district or East Anglia in vfr, ie not very good. If it is true about Orbx doing an England or Britain then count me in, If they did the airports even better but the UK2000 guys have done a great job so far, I'm personally waiting for Blackpool that was mooted a few months ago but as yet nothing else has been heard. Little addons make the difference at least, I fly into and out of blackpool and if you see the Inskip transmitters and Garstang Wind turbine at least you know you're near home - other than that, just follow the roads

OrbX is DEFINITELY doing Britain, releasing in sections, England, Wales, Scotland... Goodwood and Shoreham appear to be the first two airports/fields as well...

It would be cool to see Gary Summons of UK2000 do some blending of his airports into OrbX...

Add photoreal Belgium 2012 to the list if you can get it.

Yeah there are sone pics up from a week or two ago in the Orbx forum. Off the top of my head I believe the previews were of EGHR (someone confirm). That is going to be there first airport released and it will be released the same time as the whole area.

Yeah there it is, the first payware airport they're releasing with the base pack is EGHR , Goodwood Airport.
