Has anyone tried the new 3.30 FSUIPC wind smoothing?

Featured Replies

Hi,Has anyone who owns a registered version of the new ver. 3.30 FSUPIC tried it's new wind smoothing feature with the default FS2004 online weather system? If so, could you post your experiences and whether or not you'd recommend paying for a registration?Thank you.

I was curious about this too. So after d/ling the latest FSUIPC I made a long flight last night using FS weather. I used the SHIFT+Z function to display winds, and I was quite pleased with the new wind smoothing. I flew at FL260 for 2+ hours, saw numerous windshifts over 500+ miles in the B200 and didn't see any of the dreaded sudden killer wind shifts. Keep in mind this was just one flight. At any rate I recommend you buy the module. Lots it can do for your simming experience.Cheers,Greg

Greg, thanks for the observations. I'm using the unregistered version of FSUIPC 3.30 with the latest MR2 beta build of Activesky2004 and experienced one wind shift aloft thus that oversped my aircraft. Not sure if the problem lies with FSUPIC or Activesky. Since I only have the unregistered version of FSUPIC I can't try wind smoothing with the default FS2004 online weather.I really wouldn't use any of the other features of FSUPIC except for wind smoothing so I just wanted to see how other's experiences were going.

>I really wouldn't use any of the other features of FSUPIC... Yes, yes you would.

Brian Doney

I think you will find that in 3.30 and the latest MR2 release docs (new just two days ago) that AS2004 can now call up more features such as smoothing via FSUIPC and you need not register it to get that benefit as long as you are using AS2004 with its included limited registration. However, FSUIPC does provide both a very flexible interface for a number of FS controls including weather and aircraft, as well as AI, and some features at the user level such as control smoothing and distribution, calibration, etc., that you might consider registering the full version. It is very universal in nature for the FS environment.

Hi Greg,As a matter of interest, what's your routine for updating each version of FSUIPC? I've tended to delete both the .dll and .ini files and allow each new version to rebuild the .ini file.I know deleting the .ini file is thought to be strictly unnecessary and certainly I find it a hassle having to rebuild it each time with the button/key assignments and joystick calibrations. The only reason I've been doing it this way is to eliminate the possibility of leaving any redundant entries resulting from deletions made by Peter as he adjusts the various available features in each subsequent version of the module.Regards,Mike

Hi Mike,I just replace the .dll. I don't use the joystick options in FSUIPC (I do everything in my joystick programming), but I have made some tweaks to the config file that help with some stutters I've seen in past versions of the module. Also, all my other settings are preserved for the new .dll if I don't replace the config file (I'm lazy :-) ).Cheers,Greg

Hi Greg,"I'm lazy"......judging from your recent activity in the Hardware Forum I would say you are anything but! Thanks,Mike

You know guys, I have been beta testing this function for Pete for some time. I just could not wait to see what the community would say when it went public. Pete Dowson has fixed the NUMBER ONE problem in FS9. We have tested this wind smoothing function with all kinds of inputs from weather programs. This is one of the most outstanding finds (fixes), since FS9 was introducted. If there is ANY reason you should get the registered version this is IT. Folks this is one "hell" of a new function. If you don't get it, and your plane goes up side down, don't blame anyone except your self. Will NOT happen with 3.30Bob

sounds like a good idea, but can anyone explain the programing interface bewteen FSUIPC and FSMeteo. I have asked both of the producers what the settings should be to make these work in unision.so far no luck.to this day I have no idea which of the two actually effects exactly what in FS9 (yes I have read the manual for both items and actually constructed a custom document to highlight each item)

CPU: Core i5-6600K 4 core (3.5GHz) - overclock to 4.3 | RAM: (1066 MHz) 16GB
MOBO: ASUS Z170 Pro |  GeForce GTX 1070 8GB | MONITOR: 2560 X 1440 2K

Hi Mike S.the answer is simple FSMeteo didn't do anything in FS9 it do all via FSUIPC. FSMeteo call functions to set values in FS9 via FSUIPC. The wind smoothing of FSUIPC works on the wind at the aircraft, not changing anything of the weather data FSMeteo put in. This feature work with all weather data.If you whant to learn more about setting weather via FSUIPC, you can downlaod the source code of 'FS2k4Metar' here on AVSIM. It is my weather program which use the new FS9 weather interface. The project is stopped because I now use AS2004.

Is 3.30 available for download from avsim, because I can't find it. Or is there not a free version anymore?-Mikkel

Mikkel,FSUIPC has to be registered either by you purchasing it or from a program vendor that has a "limited" right granted to it from Pete Dowson for the FS9 version. If you look on the front page of AVSIM you will get the link and write up. Here is Pete Dowson's site: http://www.schiratti.com/ to get FSUIPC.I can't tell you how many hundreds and hundreds of hours Pete has put into this great program that adds so much to MSFS. Well worth the few bucks you pay for the registered version.Bob Johnson

HiHave tried two flights of 2 hours each using Activesky 2004.1st In a PMDG 737-800 in adverse weather, result = TOTALLY SMOOTH!2nd In the B200 in poor weather, result = TOTALLY SMOOTH!Fantastic!Good bye wind shear, no more spilt coffee!well done Pete!Bob Wright
