October 23, 201213 yr One thing I find helps is to drop off some of the "Visibility" in the distance. So in the weather section, instead of leaving it set to "Unlimited", I normally drop my visibility back to somewhere around 20/30 miles, which helps a LOT... My setup maintains a stable 30FPS+ now (In and around heathrow) after applying all of Kostas tweaks, and having all my sliders almost maxed out. I've yet to install any payware at all, but have a lot of Aerosoft stuff on the desk waiting to install, and the 737NGX, so no doubt those sliders are going to be coming right down sometime soon :-( Richard... October 23, 201213 yr Most important are your scenery and AI traffic settings; if those are set too high, you'll experience bad FPS. I have a system similar to yours, I'd say even a bit lower than yours, and FSX runs smoothly most of the time. First of all run either Bojote's tweaking tool http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html or follow Word Not Allowed's tweaking guide.http://forum.avsim.n...-guide-for-fsx/ or http://#####.wordpress.com/. Those tweaks are really great and helped me run FSX smoothly. However in some extremely dense areas, such as London City area or Downtown Seattle I get some stuters, too. Regards, Flo Flo, I see you have a laptop with a CPU similar to mine (except for GPU, see my specs). I'm also wanting to go FSX, but sometimes I feel I'm expecting too much from it and thus I uninstall it. How did you set it up? Did you disable HT? How much AI%? DX9 or DX10? I never tested with DX10, but shortly after my last FSX uninstall, I started to read some topics about DX10 conversion. October 23, 201213 yr How did you set it up? I followed Word Not Allowed's guide, gave my FSX.CFG more or less the complete treatment he suggests, except for the Nvidia specific parts. Regarding HT, I can't remember switching it off, so probably the answer to your second question is no. How much AI%? AI depends a bit on the area I'm flying. If I want to go to one of the more critical zones I tend to set traffic between 0 and 15%, but usually I can fly with MyTraffic 5.4 and 30-35% AI (Airline and GA) traffic. Usually that works quite fine. (I consider 15FPS OK, and I don't mind drops below 10FPS, as long as they last only a second or so.) DX9 or DX10? DX9, for some add-ons don't support DX10. Please note, that I'm no expert on that topic, still I hope I helped you a bit. Regards, Flo Florian
October 23, 201213 yr I use a external frame limiter, lcked at 30, and unlimited in FSX. My FPS went from 23 to 28 in NYC. HT should be off in BIOS, and AF=14. FSX will use multi-cores but not virtual cores. Word Not Allowed's Guide is the best, but it uses Nvidia card setup. For your ATI card you might try the following to remove spiking snd stuttering: [bufferPools] UsePools=1 PoolSize=8388608 // 4MB Default 4194304 RejectThreshold=524288 //524288, 262144, 126976, 98304 Have fun Dave
October 24, 201213 yr Author I have installed REX Esential, FSCENE X and FS Global(very good improvement on the terrain), I might say it's amazing, no fps change, still 24-26FPS. My only complain is that when Active Sky Evo updates stations it will slow my sim to 11-15FPS for 10-20sec till it finish the update. Any fix for this? I have tried Fly Tampa TNCM, Aerosoft Madrid(LEMD), Aerosoft Nice (LFMN), Aerosoft Brussels (EBBR), Aerosoft Lisbon (LPPT), Aerosoft Venice (LIPZ), all tested in every possible conditon (rain, thunderstorm, snowing, night, day, etc) no change in FPS, maybe just a little 22-24FPS, but to no negative effect on my sim! OldMaintChief I will try your setings for my Ati card, just to see if I will get any performance boost! If you guys have any other suggestions I'm glad to test, I've had no ideea that my PC will run FSX so good, until I decide to post here just to make a try, THANK YOU GUYS FOR HELPING ME (OE-LAT,Rockliffe,Virtualwombat and all that answer this topic) now I can finally play FSX. Any good Airbus for FSX ?? Great news! As for a fix during weather update, I'm afraid that is a symptom of the data being transfered into FSX and of course is a drag on CPU performance. However, different progams have different ways of injecting the weather, to which I am unfamiliar with in any detail. However, the newly to-be-released (updated) REX Essentials + is said to have no drain on performance while updated weather information. A work around which I have used in the past, especially good on short trips, as weather is unlikely to change too much on a short trip, is after the initial injection of the weather, is to turn the weather app off, that way you'll have all the weather information in FSX without the performance drag during the injection of updating weather  HowardMSI Mag B650 Tomahawk MB, Ryzen7-7800X3D CPU@5ghz, Arctic AIO II 360 cooler, Nvidia RTX4090 GPU, 32gb DDR5@6000Mhz, SSD/2Tb+SSD/500Gb+OS, Corsair 1000W PSU, LG Ultragear 48"4K, MFG Crosswinds, TQ6 Throttle, Fulcrum One YokeMy FlightSim YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@skyhigh776

Regarding HT, I can't remember switching it off, so probably the answer to your second question is no. Thanks, Flo. I installed FSX again (in C:\FSX), installed Acceleration and the DX10 modifications. I've never seen 20 FPS so smooth (FS9 is capable of 30 and more, but I locked it at 22 because of heat concerns). That's without disabling HT (I couldn't find it in the BIOS). Currently, I'm trying to replicate the visual settings of FS9: this means 76m mesh, 5m/pix for ground. I'll check again to see if I included all Word Not Allowed's tips (well, the ones that aren't Nvidia-specific), and defragging the HDD. Now I need to find some DX10-compatible AI, some mesh (in FS9 I used a LOD7 world mesh originally developed for CFS2, I'm not sure if this can be used for FSX), and some sky/cloud textures (just like Pablo Díaz did, but for FSX). Any ideas? I like that FSX has in game AF (sadly Intel drivers can't force AF), so my ground textures are not that blurry. But I can't keep yet the 20 FPS at KSEA all the time with the default Cessna. And I can't get full screen with DX10. Any tips? October 25, 201213 yr Author Guys can you give me a good payware Airbus for FSX, I want to buy one and I don't know what. Do you think that Aerosoft is good, or should I wait for another product to be released? October 25, 201213 yr The Aerosoft X has a warm place in my heart. I know a lot of diehards don't give it much credit due to the lack of SIDS and STARS in the FMC and perhaps the overall functionality of the VC is a little lite, but hey, there are other things to consider, eg, the textures and VC night lighting are IMO one of the finest on any aircraft and looks extremely beautifully rendered throughout. The newly to be released Airbus extended (which should have been released by now) could well turn the heads of many of the naysayers. There are of course a couple of current contenders, first there is the Just Flight model, which is to say the least nothing more than an upgraded default aircraft from my experience, then there's the Airbus from Blackbox Simulations, but, mmm... I think I am right in saying that many guys are waiting for the FlightSim labs version to be released. As they say in the game show... October 25, 201213 yr I'd wait for the Airbus X Extended or the FSL Airbus. I expect both to be high quality models and system simulations, though probably the FSL Airbus will simulate the systems better than the Aerosoft one. Aerosoft always pointed out, that they will only simulate the captain's normal job, so no seperate FO systems, and no abnormal procedures there. And, as Howard has already stated, there are some others, too, but I think he's probably said everything about those products, except maybe for one: the Wilco Airbus.I have the original version, and I think it simulated the systems quite well, but the exterior model was terrible, so I don't use it anymore. And from what I've read here, the "Evolution" didn't really change anything about that. Regards, Flo Florian
October 26, 201213 yr Author I've been looking over some video cards and I found NVidia 560GTX, do you think is worth the money, it will be an improvement for FSX over my actual one??? Mine is HD6870 1GB 256bit this one is 1.28GB 320bit, or is a waste of money? October 26, 201213 yr Probably no improvement. The 6870 is a good card, if setup correctly. Did you use BP=0 or my suggestion? LMH: HT is short for HyperThreading. The I5 does not have HT, just 4 cores. Dave
October 26, 201213 yr Well, sorry Dave, but according to trusted wisdom within the FS world, Nvidia is the preferred and trusted choice for GPUs. OK, ATI certainly has it's merits, my experience has been that they are superior for AA and filtering, and I have to say I also thought that my 5750 was faster than the GTX470 I replaced it with. BUT, in cloud, the Nvidia cards are supposed to blow away ATI. So, I am not in a position to question your comments Dave, because I can't provide consclusive proof either way. Only my limited experience, which was never conducted with a proper comparison, but I'd be interested in hearing from someone who has gone from ATI to Nvidia and who can substantiate my observations, or otherwise  . I didn't use an external limiter. Well I'm pleased FSX is running well for you. But I know what recommendations you'll get from guys for a GPU. The GTX 580 would be a good buy, or if you can stretch the spondoolies, then a 660ti would be the fave for a lot of guys. Do remember though, the difference between these cards is extremely minimal, so splashing our more than you can afford needs to be done with care. HowardMSI Mag B650 Tomahawk MB, Ryzen7-7800X3D CPU@5ghz, Arctic AIO II 360 cooler, Nvidia RTX4090 GPU, 32gb DDR5@6000Mhz, SSD/2Tb+SSD/500Gb+OS, Corsair 1000W PSU, LG Ultragear 48"4K, MFG Crosswinds, TQ6 Throttle, Fulcrum One YokeMy FlightSim YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@skyhigh776
