July 11, 200421 yr Hello Gang!I am currently in the process of completing a flight from KDFW to KMIA. After receiving my approach clearance to RWY 8R (New KMIA Rwy is rwy 8L and 8R used to be the old rwy 9L), I pulled the chart for Rwy 8R and noticed that the heading of the runway is 092. Why????? Why did they re-name this runway to 8R if the heading of 092 is cloder to 090 for a 9L or 9C nomenclature???????Thanks for any clarification.Sincerely,Dennis D. Mullert Sincerely, Dennis D. July 11, 200421 yr I don't know if this is true for KMIA or not, but if an airport has four parallel runways for example they name them 8L, 8R, 9L and 9R even if they have the same heading og say 80 deg.. Now I know that KMIA only has 3 parallel runways but the numbers doesn't always have to do with the runway heading as such...sometimes it's just to avoid confusion and making it easier for pilots.-Mikkel
July 11, 200421 yr Author Paragon is correct. Sets of parallel runways are sometimes given differing identifiers to help avoid confusion. Consider Atlanta where there are four parallel runways, two on the north side of the terminals and two on the southside. The northside set are 08R/26L and 08L/26R and the southside set are 09L/27R and 09R/27L.All four runways have identical headings... 92/272.DougDell 8250 (3.06GHz/533FSB)1GB Rambus RAM120MB ATA 100 (7200 RPM)ATI Radeon 9700 Pro (Catalyst 4.5)Audigy 2 Sound (latest drivers)MS Force Feedback 2WindowsXP Pro (SP1)DirectX 9.0b Doug Miannay PC: i9-13900K (OC 6.1) | ASUS Maximus Z790 Hero | ASUS Strix RTX4080 (OC) | ASUS ROG Strix LC II 360 AIO | 32GB G.Skill DDR5 TridentZ RGB 6400Hz | Samsung 990 Pro 1TB M.2 (OS/Apps) | Samsung 990 Pro 2TB M.2 (Sim) | Samsung 990 Pro 2TB M.2 (Games) | Fractal Design Define R7 Blackout Case | Win11 Pro x64
