October 29, 201213 yr What are your thoughts CLS Commercial Simulations 747 VS PMDG 747 (Also share information on other popular planes you've flown and enjoy) Compared to one another wich one has the best 1.)Performance 2.) Overall Looks 3.)VC 4.)Sounds 5.) Controls and so forth Please share your thoughts Along with some other popular planes for Fs2004
October 29, 201213 yr There's really no comparison. The PMDG is superior in every way. It is a complex aircraft though,so be prepared to spend some time with the manuals. The CLS 747 isn't a bad product, but if you compare it to the PMDG, it doesn't come close. I have the CLS 747 and didn't even bother to put it on my hard drive when I bought a new system and reinstalled FS9 a few months ago.
October 29, 201213 yr Two different products for two different markets. The CLS is a representation of the "classic" 747 ie the 200 and 300 series. CLS provides a "lite" simulation with reasonable graphics, it is actually quite enjoyable. PMDG provides a representation of the 400 series with the 800 as an add on, it is more in depth, geared towards the detailed simmer who wants most systems simulated. Depending on what your requirements are, either are good choices for you. Will Reynolds Flight Sim Addict
October 29, 201213 yr If it's good systems modeling you want in a classic 747, take a look at the Ready for Pushback 747. I believe it's available here at the library as freeware, now. A few years ago it was payware, and although it's aged a bit, I still believe it to be a fun representation of flying the old Queen. Just my two cents. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
October 29, 201213 yr CLS 747 and PMDG 747 are poles apart. PMDG 747 is 5 (five) times better than CLS !
October 29, 201213 yr Will made a good point about the two being very different - both in the market they are directed to and the version of the 747. The CLS version is the 200-300 and is very different to the 400. And CLS is directed toward those who want a simpler aircraft they can pretty much fly "out of the box" whereas PMDG is hard-core... I didn't mean to give too negative an impression of the CLS aircraft by the way. I have had some fun flying it. But when it came time to reinstall, I realized I hadn't used it in a long time so didn't reinstall it. But if you don't want the complexity of the PMDG then you may enjoy it... Cheers Ian
October 29, 201213 yr I have the CLS 747, and I do enjoy flying it because the VC/Exterior graphics look great and it fits my flying style. For the most part, I enjoy flying simpler airliners as I dont have the time/patience to study massive manuals in order to use the PMDG version properly. They cater to two different audiences, and each does its job well. I have to disagree with anyone who says that the PMDG is better than the CLS. is is not because you cannot compare the two products in this way. It is like saying that the C172 is a horrible aircraft because it cannot cross the Atlantic nonstop.
October 29, 201213 yr Ditto. In a way they can be said to be equal - each represents the the top levels of their own complexity classes, it's just that those classes are worlds apart. Regards, Mark
October 29, 201213 yr I'd do a simple test: fly the iFly 747-400 (freeware). If it's too complex for you, go CLS. If you think you need more complexity, go PMDG . October 29, 201213 yr I really like my CLS 747. It suits me in a couple ways, I like simpler systems modeling and I prefer the "classic" 747 with it's steam-gauge cockpit. CLS has a great looking model, vc, and textures.
October 30, 201213 yr Som how does the cls 747 compare with the rfp classic? Proper systems is my stipulation with add-ons, so the RFP offering wins hands down to me. Since it's a simple download and single install file, you can't go wrong trying it. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
October 30, 201213 yr The RFP was a very good product, offered reasonable immersion of systems for the 747 Classic, most systems worked in it, even in the Flight Engineer's panel. By todays standards, it is very dated, and there have been no official improvements over the past few years, although you will find some people have added some refinements. The CLS was created a few years later and this translates to better graphics over the RFP, but it is still a "Lite" product so it does not have the systems immersion of the RFP model. As per the very good suggestion here, you will find the RFP version as freeware these days, and if you are in FS9, it is well worth a look. Will Reynolds Flight Sim Addict
October 30, 201213 yr Yes the CLS is "lite" and was not meant for hardcore simulation, I am pretty sure however it is lot of fun. I do not own the CLS but I have the DC 10 and it is fun. But if you wanna get more knowledge and learning curves while having fun, you gotta love The Queen
October 30, 201213 yr I have both (CLS and PMDG). They are very different as discussed already, but both are fun in their own way. Surprisingly, I usually fly the CLS one more these days because of limited preparation time, it's a bit easier to hop in and fly quickly. Warren
