Just wondering if any one else has a problem with active skys weather being out of date ?... and will it be fixed at all ? its kind of off putting ... i saw another post were a user switched to ASE cos but at the moment this is not an option for me .

Hi Rich,

 

Check your options and make sure that you are not forcing to Secondary server. That server (ASv6.5 secondary) has been retired, at might explain old data not updating if that is how you have it configured.

the option is not ticked .. as you can see the weather is over an hour old .

That looks normal. The next update for EGKK probably occurred at about 1220Z, and it would take several minutes (10-20 is normal) for that to work its way through the networks, onto our servers, and into your next download update interval. If you waited about 5-10 more minutes the update should have shown.

I've been checking for the past 48 hours, and the weather updates are working fine from my end, with no anomalies reported in server logs. I am not sure why you are now downloading weather older from before. I would suggest a reinstall, and also, we have noticed some internet connectivity issues the past few days as a result of Sandy. Perhaps it will clear up soon.

Just brought the Evo version and the weather is upto date .., strange that 6.5 always lags behind , i could not even get the vatsim weather to work and tried it on my pc and lappy but still no go , at least every thing works great with Evo .

I'm having the same problem, I know ASv6 is very old but if it's been switched off (or knobbled) it'd be nice to know. I tried a reinstall to no avail.

 

 

 

It seems to have missed 3 updates (1420, 1450 and 1520). I had a look at it's network activity, it seems to make a successful connection to usa1.hifisim.com, only exchanges a few packets though. I couldn't get any access to that server to see what it's seeing.

 

I also have trouble when downloading historic data, see below.

 

 

 

The 10Z download fails, the 11Z throws this error, clicking OK closes the program. Are these two issues connected (is the "path not found" to the weather data it can't find/download?).

 

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Apart from having up to date weather, are there any noticeable improvements with ASE (for FS9)? Maybe I'll have top invest but I'll miss the small, clean, business like interface of v6.

Loaded it up today and its still out of date plus the TAFF makes no sence .. this is the taff i got for Gatwick EGKK ..EGKK 000000Z 000000 20015KT 9999 BKN050 BECMG 0606 SCT020 BKN045 TEMPO 0918 9000 -RA BKN015 RMK AUTO GENERATED RMK AUTO GENERATED ... its always that in fact , some this is not right for sure and i wish this would get looked info as its effecting AS6.5 users , my mate has the same so reinstalling wont work and using the Vatsim servers dosnt work so must be some thing on the active sky servers .

If it was not for the weather problem then i would not have brought ASE as i was more then happy with 6.5 but i feel that they are slowly dropping it , .... ASE on the other hand is great with some nice new features over 6.5 .. the main thing i miss from 6.5 is the overcast cloud enhancement but the other features of ASE make up for it , i cant see the issues with 6.5 being fixed so an upgrade to ASE or AS2012 (if you have FSX) may be the only option to take .

 

Please Active sky support can you take another look at this problem with 6.5 again as its still a very popular program .. .try starting the program with Gatwick then check the taff or any UK airport in fact , the taff wont be right

When I load up the EGKK report in ASV6.5, it's just fine (and up to date) but the TAF fetched is for ENZV (Stavanger, Norway) or another random airport... that's a bit odd. Is this a consequence of running ASV and ASE on the same system?

yep same .. i got UMMS in the taff for the nav/WX report , gatwicks weather in mine was the 1550.

Something is amiss and was happening before i installed ASE so its not that ... funny thing is if i have both AS6.5 and ASE open at the same time the weather is spot on on AS6.5 including the taff , clossing both then opening up just 6.5 its back to out of date wx and odd looking taffs

You say there's no overcast enhancement anymore, is that because the overcast in ASe is better and doesn't need it or have they just dropped the feature? FWIW I liked it...

 

I'm sorely tempted just to get the up to date weather but I want to make sure I get something new for my money.

First of all you wont regret it ...been using ASE for a good few weeks now heres just a few things i like but check the web site for more info .

The lay out is better with more options to get the weather how you want it, the weather engine and updates are so much better then in AS6.5 , you can add new stations, for example UK2000 have brought out some Doncaster Airport scenery ... using active sky 6.5 the weather that it set would be from the nearest station so not always correct if at all as Doncaster isnt included but with AES you can add Doncaster so you get the correct weather , infact you can update / add or remove stations , airports and nav aids as you see fit , there is a cool map were you can view the weather and airports plus see your route on the map if you have set one , you can refresh the route now on the go which is some thing you could not do on AS6.5 so you can always see the latest weather at your arrival Airport ,going back to the weather engine it now uses some thing called advanced interpolation at stations were theres no weather reported , what this means is the program will use four nearby stations to work out what the weather should be at the station thats not reporting weather ... this works quite well , but been a few times were theres been rain were i live (Plymouth) but dry in the sim but cant be helped .

all in all its far better then AS6.5 , by the sounds of it 6.5 is coming near the end of its life so cant see any of the server problems fixed , when i brought ASE i wondered why i did not get it earlier .

 

i do miss the overcast feature from 6.5 as i think 6.5 is better for overcast skys :( but dont let that put you off .
