Seems to be a lull in new aircraft releases

After downloading the PMDG 737's and the PSS Airbusses, Im happy to stick with them. They are as real as they get.Dave.ASUS KT333 M/Board, Radeon9800Pro128mb, 1024DDR, ATI xp2400+CPU, 80 gb HDD

The other thing slowing down releases is the fact people are demanding more and more features and detail so it takes much more time to model.Brian

Like Dark Moment, I have every thing known to man ... but I find myself flying Stellan Hilmersby's very excellent DC-9 Panel merged with a Jet City Aircraft 9-41 two out of three flights. If you want a challenge, an awesome learning experience, and a great flight ALL of the time .. then get this one .. honestly better than most payware .. very detailed procedurally, well documented .. Stellan flew the 9's for years for SAS ... now flys MD-80sThen of course there is always the fanda Dash-8, the Espen F50 .. if you haven't experienced those two regionals you're really missing something.I always was a big "glass" fan ... DF 737, PIC767, PSS busses, now the PMDG 737's ... but between the RFP 747-200 and Stellan's DC-9 .. I really understand Lou Betti's comments about "no glass" and no FMS needed. Navigation is the old fashioned vor to vor way, or for a treat, use Alain Capt's excellent little free GPS ... needed with Stellan's DC-9 .. the same GPS used by SAS .. works fine in FS9 ... old nav data, but marrying the GPS to FSBUILD ... you can generate flight plans simply and easily. Give it a try!!!I must try the Connie one day!!!Cheers,Paul BenoitKBOS

Paul beat me to it...sometimes when there's a lull in the action it creates a chance to go back and peruse what's already out there. I just discovered Stellan Hilmerby's freeware DC-9 panel this week. I agree with Paul that Stellan's panel is as good or better than a sizeable percentage of the quality payware offerings. Systems fidelity and flight dynamics both look better than the Flight1 Iron Knuckles package that sells for $30 or so. Makes me wonder what else I've missed...CheersBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Washington, DC

The Howard 500 was a 10.5 month project duration. The longer the project, the more delays as team members are exposed to more interruptions over time. The upcoming Shrike from Paul Saunders and our team started 18 months ago. I have been trying to get back to the Dash 7 for ... forever. lol Hopefully, I can get on it in late August, early September. For me, it makes sense to do a base model, then release a few variants to capitalize on all the time invested. That resulted in the Dash 7 and AC500 Cargo series, the ACxxx series and the upcoming Howard 500 bare metal Cargo version to be released within a week along with the bare metal paint kit.I don't know what others are doing but we typically have 2000 hours in our projects, plus or minus. Frankly, I think most designers just cannot afford that kind of time investment these days, or they become frustrated at the seemingly short-lived use or gratitude for all the effort. LOL Fifteen minutes of fame is all you get.It certainly requires a full time effort to develop and deliver a full package of error-free technology. Anything short of that will be largely ignored and likely end the aspirations of new designers. The learning curves and the frustrations exceed the tolerance levels of many and it's easier to simply enjoy what others are doing, payware or freeware.Ho-hum .. are you asleep yet? LOL

Hi Paul and others,On the issue of flying something without a glass panel and/or FMC. I used to fly only stuff that had all the glass, but now am in the midst of training for my instrument rating in a C172 and am learning (as mandated by the FAA) to navigate "the old fashioned way". Even to the extent of entering and maintaining holding patterns and DME arcs on partial panel with no AI or DG, and with all those compass dip errors going on it really gets challenging :). Consequently I've discovered a whole new respect for those older transport category aircraft that have no (or minimal) glass and require the pilot to actually think out the maneuver rather than a few mouse clicks on a key-pad.The only problem I have in flying these older birds is that in real life they are getting to be very rare. Flying a DC-9, B727 or even a B742 has to have very limited real-world operations to simulate, but I guess one can take a time machine backwards and simulate those days when these birds were prevalent too.Good thread.Bruce.

Milton:Glad to hear you're still thinking about further development of the wonderful Dash 7. You wouldn't be introducing a virtual cockpit by any chance? :-hah Hope so

Hi Bruce,Understand what you mean about about older a/c. I try to fly all over the world ..in reasonable liveried a/c .. i.e. in Thailand ... Thai Airlines, Bangkok Air .. etc...What always works for me is a few cargo liveries ... DHL or FEDEX for 727's, airborne for DC-9s and Atlas, Polar, MK Airlines and UPS for the 742 .. when I'm at a loss for what to fly ... I'll always do a cargo run. Works for me!!!Good luck with the PPL!!

All I know is this: I don't think people will complain when we release 9 or so DC-9s at a time. :)I know SGA hasn't released anything in 5 months or so. That's probably because Jon has to relearn GMax, Frit is going nuts at work, and I'm just being quiet while I work on the DC-9. :)
