Missed this thread--great screenshots. My understanding of a carrier landing is they go to full throttle as they hit the deck, just in case they miss the arresting wires. That would take nerves of steel that I don't have.... I can't even imagine trying to land on a pitching, rolling "runway". Landing on a regular runway was a challenge to me when I was taking flight lessons, and my practice runway was a mile long.

The trick is to use the stick to bracket the speed and use the throttle to pinpoint the landing spot.

It's amazing what's available as freeware for carrier ops. I made a little video, using

  • Dino Cattaneo's T-45C Goshawk,
  • Javier Fernandez's carrier package and
  • Serge's virtual Landing Signal Officer (vLSO).
