REX Essential Plus and Overdrive are ready!

Recommended Posts

I can't remember a major release like this where the servers couldn't handle the traffic. Not a biggie.

My goodness... what's in a name... Real Environment Xtreme Essential Plus Overdrive... In a year or two, three we will have Real Environment Xtreme Essential Plus Overdrive Extra Deluxe Crucial Principal Capital Abnormal Extensial

Maybe they just should have called it REX 4.0...? ;) (And created ONE installer to bring everyone to the same level at the same time? ;) )

I agree. It's confusing now! Great product though and I have downloaded it.

I'm confused too. Call it one name. I don't even know how plus and overdrive differ from essential.

Yes surely it's a huge hassle now servicing and supporting all these variants of the same thing. It should be unified somehow.

I'm confused too. Call it one name. I don't even know how plus and overdrive differ from essential.

I am no expert (I bought version 1 and updated it to version 2 and didn't bother (yet) with the rest), but afaik:

- Essentials is a completely updated version of REX 2 and probably should/could also have been simply named REX 3.

- Plus is a completely updated version of 3 (focusing on the weather engine) and probably should/could have been named REX 4 ^_^ but it still is called version 3 (actually 3.1.2012.1028 or 3.1.2012.1029). 'Plus' simply indicates a few things have been added and hence no big change in the version number. ^_^ Seeing what has been changed I would have called it 4 though!

BTW You can update to Essentials Plus directly from version 2 also (hence all the various possible downloads!).

- Overdrive is 9.9 Gb of extra HD textures so it adds no real differences to the core program: however, if you use Overdrive you will require a different update for REX because the core program has been altered a little to deal with the extra content.

Please correct me if I am wrong. ;)

lol I dont know if this will help clarify:

REX Essential is essentially a new version like v3.

Essential Plus is more of a SP1

Overdrive is a feature pack, Optional.

EDIT: J van E is faster than me :)

Useful explanations indeed. How's the download working for you folks?

I saw they have some extra Amazon servers added. Mind the extra symbols on the download pages. Jay also posted that torrents are available too.

I'm using the torrent download and it's still slow. I tried the Amazon server and that too was slow.

You will find at the end that the files CAB 13 and CAB14 are corrupted.

I have downloaded twice from Amazon...

Others have reported the same.

Yes if you download fresh from the flightsim store you bought.

EDIT: Not all, only REX Ess+. Overdrive you would still have to get it from REX forums.

Couple of questions from those who have d/l and installed it:

1. Does it provide for a P3D install option?

2. Does is have a server/client install option - or should I say instructions on how to install for that scenario?

I love REX but dealing with them and their idiotic verification process and rude moderators is a pain in the &@($*...
