Use of a Spare Monitor for FS9?

Featured Replies

I have a second (now redundant) computer (P4-1.6G, currently running Win98SE) which is networked through a LAN to this one (XP) and a DSL internet connection. Do any of you use a 2nd computer for FS9? I'd be interested in any applications of a spare PC for FS.This spare PC shares a monitor with my primary PC (A/B switching into a flat screen), although it has it's own keyboard and mouse.Thanks,Bruce.

Sounds like a similar setup to mine. I have an extra 17" screen that I share among two PC's. You are in a great position by having that 2nd monitor. I drag my GPS, Pushback, FlightDeck SFX Panels over there to clear up space on my main PC. I loaded MS Mappoint onto the 2nd PC and plan to the GPS output of FS onto a moving map. Another idea is stack one monitor on top of another rather than side-by-side. That way you can have the panel on the lower monitor and an unobstructed view on the upper monitor. This is my favorite setup.Lot's of options...

Thanks for the reply :)I may not have explained this correctly. I only have one monitor (with 2 switchable inputs).Thanks,Bruce.

I haven't tried sharing one monitor with 2 PC's but if you say it's switchable, then it's possible to have the spare PC to run the intruments using Project Magenta (rather pricey) or the freewARE "Glass Flight Deck" which I'm using. You will need FSUIPC and WideFS to get them working. The other possibility is to run FS9 on both PC's using Wideview but this doesn't seem to work too well with FS9 as compared to FS2K2.You can have some idea of how the "Glass Flight Deck" works by visiting my website below:http://www.geocities.com/ashwar.geo/myfltdek.html

Bruce,I have a similar setup, although I have two monitors, each computer has it's own. Main computer is connected to the Internet via DSL and through Internet Connection Sharing the secondary box also has access to the net. I run (registered) FSUIPC and WideFS. On my secondary computer I run Radar Contact 3, weather program(s), FS Flight Keeper and other small stuff so that they don't steal resources from my main FS box. Most of the time everything runs perfectly. If you only have one monitor, you can still do all this and simply switch between the two displays. What's important is that your FS computer runs as clean as possible. Regards,Jurehttp://www.globecargo.org/images/VAA_Captain.jpg

Thanks, cool site!Bruce.
