Anyone gotten any of the 10.000 hours rewards in FSX?

Featured Replies

I have never thought about the logbook. I usually fly because I like to fly not to count hours :).

My first logbook entry for my current install of FSX was May 12th 2012, I've got 447 hrs total so far, and get this: 1510 landings! An average of over 3 landings per hour.

Guess it's pretty clear I'm not big on long hauls, lol. I do spend most of my sim time flying around the patch in GA birds now that I think about it.

Anyone got a higher landings/hr ratio?

I don't use the logbook per se, but you need it to registrer events that will give you rewards. I use Prepar3D for serious flying, but don't log my hours there eithet. I just log real flying time in real aircraft.

I made a "flight information" sheet in word and printed it out. I like it, the layout is nice and neat. It also helps with the immersion in the sim.

Thanks,

For the record , Yes I have the 10,000 hour flight reward on FSX. I currently have 12,425 hours logged :-)

Holy cow! Congrats! You're the first person in history I've heard of the get this reward. Any change you've managed to get the Eiffel Tower postcard reward from the Paris Air Show mission as well?

According to Wikipedia, FSX was released on 17 October 2006, which was approximately 54,000 hours ago. Given that one sleeps for 8 hours a day (he or she is probably away from FSX at least 8 hours per day), that leaves us with approximately 36,000 hours of usable time. 36,000 divided by your 12,000 hours seems to indicate that you flew on FSX for one-third of each usable day (unless you left the autopilot engaged overnight).

Can you confirm this? If so, that's true dedication by you and your hardware (for not requiring a single reinstall)!

I believe that time compression is counted as full time flown. Still, 12000+ hours is a serious commitment to flight simming.

Good point. I forgot about it, because I always fly in real-time (unless something urgent occurs and I need to speed up or slow down the simulation rate).

I think ony once did I do an overnight flight with the auto pilot engaged. But other than that I fly just about everyday, for several hours and more doing the weekends. When I was training for my private pilot's license I used FSX a lot. Now that I'm licensed I use it even more until I can afford to pay for Avgas (lol). BTW I always fly real time, and if I cannot finish a flight to my destination because of time or just being tired, I always deviate to the nearest airport. The wife and kids are very supportive of my hobby, because they always know where I am :-) and they know that they cannot talk to me during take off and landings, any other time I'm far game to them. FSX makes great practice for the real world for me and the family agrees

Wow! Then it really is impressive. What aircraft and controllers do you usually use?

You're lucky that your family supports your hobby.

I've got a supportive wife as well, so she has rarely nagged me about spending time in the FSX-world. Usually she asks if she can put the dinner on the table or if she should wait for me to land (I'm the luckiest man alive, I know). I haven't flown close to that many hours though, even if I added all my flightsimming since FS4 together I'd be far away :)

Care to share how you got the Eiffel Tower postcard reward? You're the only one I know who's gotten that one too :)

I fly mostly GA Airplanes my hanger has, outside the defaults:

  • Tecnam Sierra
  • Flight1 C182T
  • Piper Mailbu 46T
  • Lancair Legacy

I use CH yoke and rudder pedals

My computer specs are in my profile

What helps us a lot is I let each family member pick a destination and airplane and we fly there if possible. So for example I asked my wife were she wants to go on our last trip and she said Uruguay. So we fly real-time and real fuel management. We live on the east coast of the US. Once all airplanes are at the destination, I fly them all back to our home airport KLHZ, and we start all over again...It's lots of fun.

Actually, it's been a while since I gotten that one, but I think the key was getting the low past correct...I'll have to try it again. But i think the key was using the autopilot, and getting down to the correct altitude. I use a rate of decent calculation if my memory serves me correctly.

OK, Thanks! If you're able to crack it again please let me know. It's the only mission rewaird that I haven't managed to earn.

That's a good idea, and it helps make an otherwise unsocial hobby (that is, one that does not usually involve face-to-face human interaction) more enjoyable and interesting to those around you. I wish I could always take off from the airport I last landed at for every flight, but it is unrealistic to commute from Vienna to Hong Kong every weekend in the simulator. Perhaps I'll just think of it as riding from one place to another faraway place as a passenger on a company flight, and then piloting the new flight from the destination.
