Configure joystick-axis through GUI? (instead of editing standard.xml)

Hello MS-Flight airmen and devs,

 

We are busy preparing FaceTrackNoIR for MS-Flight and would like some more info on how to translate joystick axis to in-game camera-movement.

 

From some info on the WWW and through 'trial and error' I have managed to get most axis working. However, to achieve this I have to edit the standard.xml file and to safeguard that I have made it read-only. But that's not really user-friendly, is it?

 

So these are my settings:

Is there any way of configuring these settings through the GUI of MS-Flight?

Don't think so - we had asked for more tweaking ability through the GUI for controller options in Flight back when the sim was still actively being worked on, however we never quite got that before they shut down development - but we did get Track IR support and working toe brake axis which is working beautifully :smile: .

 

I am afraid any further tweaking will have to be done by trial and error in the standard xml file. There may be some tips in the Flight early tutorials section on some things that can be adjusted.

Just glad we got Track IR and toe brakes when we did. I never felt the need before Flight came out but am still glad I went out and bought them. Took me right back to my C-150 flight training days. Only thing missing is the rear view mirror.

Shut down development? That's a pity (I guess). So we'll just have to make-do with the manual tweaking then.

 

Are there any new Flight-sim developments I should know about? Or has Microsoft left the market?

Yes, unfortunately they ceased development on Flight just a few short months after it's release. At least for the foreseeable future, they have left the flight sim market. There were a lot of us very dissappointed, this forum used to be much more active.

Microsoft stopped the development of Flight many months ago. There is still a small team that serves as a support group that keeps things running.

 

As for tweaking, that was always one of Flight's better points. Not much tweaking needed.

 

For all practical purposes, Microsoft has left the flight sim market all together so there are no new developments in any of their sims.

But: maybe there are other new Flight sims I should pay attention to? What other new developments were recently released or a about to be released?

I would suggest you look at the other flightsim forums on this site, FSX, Xplane, and Prepar3d. There are 3rd party releases for these regularly.
