Landing Gear Extension

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'm new here, just bought the Carenado B200 this afternoon.

I've had a bit of a play with it already and installed SP1.

One thing that has me perplexed is when I select gear down (below the max extension speed of roughly 180 KIAS) - either with my Goflight LGT II or with the keyboard - the gear will not come down until below 165 KIAS. Recycling etc doesn't do a thing - the handle changes to the down position but nothing else occurs. The 165 KIAS is important as it is (163 KIAS) the limit speed for gear retraction (in the real aircraft) and I'm wondering if there isn't something in the code messing with this. Has anyone else seen this?

Cheers,

Freddo

Does the real plane allows for locking gear down if above the extension speed?

I believe some of the planes has build-in protection for such an event.

I do not know, how it works for B200 King Air, neither in real life nor in Carenado product

No, the real aircraft doesn't have any overspeed protection for the gear or flaps, you can throw them out at any speed you like. The newer models will log any exceedances such as this and then alert the relevant people in your organisation such as engineering, management etc.

So I took the B200 up for a bit more accurate flying. Using Shift Z to get a digital readout of the Indicated Speed the gear doesn't come down until 163 KIAS exactly. I went into the realism settings and disabled the Aircraft Stress causes Damage tab and then ran the test again. The gear now comes down quite happily at 180 KIAS. Back to the realism settings and re-enabled the Stress causes Damage tab again and once again same issue. Guess I'll have to fly around with this disabled.

Interesting find. I know a few people complained about the 163 limit.. So it seem to be the aircraft stress damage tab then.. Was funny becuase only a very few people seem to encountered it. Well I dont have it on and never had the limit imposed on me. This is a good find. However it really should not be like that as u said the real plane will drop the gear at any speed even above the 181 POH limit imposed.

anyway good find for the cause of the 163. Surely there must be a way to change something to get FSX to at least see the limit as 181 and not 163.

Another suggestion.

please give this details through to carenado..

they not frequenting this forum much, but if you send them an email they might correct this in SP2 on which they are working now. support@carenado.com

I have found them to look at issues given through to them directly and not if you just log it here.

This is all very strange,

If you bought it today I think it will come with SP2 as SP2 is out and you installed SP1?

Strange!

Oh nice, did not see that SP 2 has been released.. busy downloading

Edit:

I also found the entry in aircraft.cfg where the stress dmage is set. So we can correct it ourselfes in the mean time.

I will test tonight when home.

According to SDK number 15 is teh entry to correct. contact point section

15 (0) Airspeed Limit This is the speed at which landing gear extension becomes inhibited (knots). Not used for scrape points or non-retractable gear.

16 (200) Damage from Airspeed The speed above which the landing gear accrues damage (knots). Not used for scrape points or non-retractable gear.

Ok here is the entry to correct and it is working on my machine. See red indicated areas in aircraft.cfg

NB Always make a backup before you change anything in aircraft.cfg

Change the 3, 163's to 182 and the limit will then be 182 if you have stress damage ticked in FSX. at least then it will drop gear down at 181. see below what mine look like after the change
