CTD or Freeze with the B200

Hi B200 pilots

 

I purchased Carenado's latest product shortly after release. But somehow I was never able to fly her more than a few minutes, until I faced a crash-to-desktop or even a total freeze of my computer. When SP1 was released I installed it immediately, but no change. The same with SP2. Finally, I removed the aircraft from my computer, downloaded the newer version from the Carenado website (including SP1) and installed it again. My flights have become a bit longer since (maybe 15 to 20 minutes) but still have the same ending. Searching the forum did not lead to any result. Is anybody here who faced the same problem and might have a solution?

 

For your info: I fly many different airplanes, including complex simulations like the A2A Spitfire, A2A Mustang, PMDG's 747, MD11, B17 and 737NGX, but I never experienced anything like this. My B200 is equipped with the RXP GNS530, which works flawlessly in several other airplanes.

 

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Are there error messages in the Windows event log?

 

I fly the B200 with twin RXP GNSs without any problems..

I used AppCrashView to see the event log. Here is a screenshot of the latest crash report. I cannot interpret it. It's in German due to my German operating system. Do you see a chance to trace the crash cause?

BTW, it has nothing to do with the RXP GNS. FSX crashes with or without it in the B200.

Deleting all addon-specific entries from the fsx.cfg let me finally find the cause of the continuous crashes: The RXP GNS installation. After removing those entries from the fsx.cfg, the crashes with the B200 disappeared. In another form I found the following hint: "Go to "User"/My Documents/rxpGnsSim/Nonvol. Rename or delete the file gnsw_530.mem. You're going to lose your saved flight plans, but it will clear up your problem." And it did! Everything works fine now.

Hello King Air fans! I am writing here, as I am having the same issue, but with the C90B from Carenado. The King Air 200 forum is more alive and popular than the C90B one, therefore here I am looking for a helping hand. Well, I cannot fly the C90B for more than an hour and a half, after that FSX crashes. I pulled up the Windows Event Viewer, and this is what it shows:

My PC specs are: Windows7-64 bit, Core duo E8400 overclocked @ 4.0, Nvidia GT8800, 4 GB RAM; there is a hotfix that I found on another forum, that I installed, I even lowered the FSX settings, and that made FSX crash after just a few minutes.

 

I would appreciate if someone can help me out, I am open to any suggestion, regards,

Hello FP, nice to see you again! I did just that yesterday, I spoke to Jim, aka firehawk44. He is very knowledgeable and a very polite and nice person, all I did is disabling all add on that I have: GEX Europe, UTX Europe and Scenerytech Europe, set unlimited fuel, and I was finally able to fly and test for well over four hours with no CTD. Evidently all this software, together with the King Air, puts a lot of strain on the cpu, an E8400, although overclocked @ 4.0 Ghz. So, what I am going to do is to enable one of them at a time, and test until I get a CTD again. I probably have to do an upgrade for my PC, but I am waiting for the new Haswell cpu. They say the new Haswell microarchitecture is going to be a much faster and easier to overclock cpu. Thanks for your suggestion anyway, you have a great week end, up in the sky!!

Very happy you found success. I am hopeful you can add back add ons one at a time and determine if any one of them is more of an issue than the others. I also created a separate Windows 7 user for use with FSX and created a relatively clean Windows 7 boot that eliminates many items that boot in my normal boot sequence. Items like the Epson Event Manager for my printer/scanner, updaters for my Adobe applications, and so on. So part of my pre-flight sequence is a reboot to that user. I also, though using textures from my chosen weather add-on, have ceased using that add-ons weather engine and now only use the native FSX weather engine with the add-on's textures. Then I stay out of the FSX menus as much as possible.

At least I somehow succeeded in enjoying my King Air for more then 90 minutes... :lol: , now comes the interesting part: finding out who the culprit is....and as you perfectly say: let's stay out of the FSX menus, as much as possible....
