fsx-ms Good modifications of default aircraft

I see a lot of people raving about great mods to defualt aircraft in FSX that make them more realistic to fly. Anyone willing to provide links to such files/tutorials or share tips here as a service to the community?

The free RealAir air- file for use with the default FSX Cessna C172 is very good.

 

The download page says: 'Cessna 172 for 2004' but it's compatible with FSX with no problems.

Fine tuning an aircraft takes more time, effort and research than most people want to do, but it's very rewarding. Downloading tweaked files is often exchanging one bad aircraft and flight model for another. I've seen plenty of evidence even in payware aircraft that the people who did the flight model didn't really understand what they were doing.

 

A good place to start if you want to learn is the FSX SDK that's on your FSX disk.

 

I'd like to see some good comprehensive tutorials myself.

I use the OZX Grumman Goose HD Redux 1.20 to, it's a great plane.

Better interior:high resolution virtual cockpits, better exterior: 4096 pixel textures, 2 different engines and much better ground handling and dynamics than the default FSX one.

When I reinstall FSX (more often than I'd like!) this is one of the first things I install.  The funny thing is, I never fly the defaults any more, but it's almost like a mark of respect for all the enjoyment I had from those FDE mods, that I still install Alexander's Mods.

 

Alexander also did the FDE for the Digital Aviation aircraft, all of which fly beautifully, especially the Do-27. :cool:

 

The default C208 with Alexander's FDE mods flies nicer than the Carenado C208 IMHO.

Yep, I got all the Metzger files. Love them. Too bad his website is down. Don't know if you can get them anymore.

 

BTW I've made zip files of all my modded default aircraft, and just unzip them after a reinstall with all my faourite mods and repaints ready to go!

I found the site below helpful in finding some good improvements to the Airbus 321 default and others. Go to downloads and check out some of the files. I think the LJ45 might be in there.

I still use the default A321 because mainly good FPS on my machine (no fmc). Would love to try the Aerosoft A321 EXT but afraid to invest because I may not have an adequate computer to achieve decent frames.

That's the first thing that came to my mind too when I saw the thread title, I also use the RAS flight dynamics with the Carenado model which is quite nice to fly and looks good too. I also consider any FDE upgrades by Bernt Stolle to be "must haves" and I've used a couple mods by Alexander Metzger with great success as well.

 

EDIT: Oops, thread is almost a year old, oh well, credit where credit is due :smile:

COCKPITSOUNDS_V2.ZIP. By Daniel Gauthier. FSX Cockpit Sounds In all aircraft which use xml in the coding of switches which are the default planes. I think it's the addon of the year.

 

Furthermore Realengine v1.2. Poor men's Accusim but very good.

I have Alexander Metzger's revised FDEs for the FSX C172, C208 and DC-3 and would be happy to dropbox link them, if anyone wants them    - if we can establish whether Alexander is ok with them being shared (they were publically available for about 7 years, so I'd assume he is!).
