December 4, 201213 yr And... to find out even better why the RXP gauges may be working so correctly, fly a completely uncoordinated std rate turn and please post your findings OK, done. An extremely slipping turn (a right turn, with a bootfull of left rudder, and enough right aileron to overpower that and keep the RXP TC indicating rate one) resulted in the RXP gauge underindicating the turn, which took 1:45. The RealAir TC in the VC indicated as before (on the R rather than the line above it). An extremely skidding turn (a right turn, with a bootfull of right rudder, and enough left aileron to counter the consequent overbanking tendency) saw the RXP gauge overindicate (the turn took 2:15) while the RealAir TC kept it's same relationship to the RXP gauge (wing on the R again). I've never tried making uncoordinated turns using a real TC. I'm trying to imagine the effect on them given what I know about their construction, and it actually seems to me they'd do the same as the RXP does, the out of balance forces tending to tilt the gimbal that's attached to the needle out of a slipping turn, and into a skidding one. Oh my God, I will feel really bad if something nasty happens to you or to your aircraft... take care!!!! :-) I'm happy to report that the Duke (at least the RealAir one) put up rather nicely with my flagrant mishandling, and the peril was always kept at manageable levels! Maybe I am missing some of the finer points here... but would this problem not be resolved by simply updating the VC art? Move the tics on the TC the appropriate amount and viola' problem solved more or less? I agree. Just like in a real TC, you can't interpolate or extrapolate - you can only rely on it to read correctly at exactly rate-one, but in my testing it's quite consistent in that it always gives the same (over)indication in an actual rate-one turn, so all that needs doing is to move the marks on the gauge graphics.
December 4, 201213 yr The deed is done.... For those with the knack, get a dds converter, convert the files mentioned by Bert above (BACKUP!!!!!), relative to the image as you see in the editor of your choice, clip the tick marks and move them up 7 pixels and in 2 pixels, fill in the space vacated with the appropriate color (you'll need some artistry here because it is a gradient). Mine looks no different than the default textures. Should RealAir deem this a worthy modification and provide me with permissions to circulate the edited files, I will... but not without their consent. Please do not ask for the edits, I will not give them out. PERIOD. I got in a heap of trouble once before for making a "community mod" and sharing the edited bitmap... which happened to be copyright material so the owner was none too pleased.
December 5, 201213 yr I could imagine why external gauges are able to show the correct turn rate indication. I think I can even connect Plan-G to sim and, on the GPS panel, it may show the Duke properly turning (as it e.g. does when on autopilot). Depends on the method on how to determine the plane's movement. However, the ingame indicator in the Duke's VC may indeed benefit from the suggestion to alter the texture. Maybe just a workaround, but it would lead to a proper needle alignment on the 2min mark, when the plane does just that, a standard rate turn. Nice work, LawnDartLeo. Should RealAir deem this a worthy modification and provide me with permissions to circulate the edited files, I will... but not without their consent. I hope they support it.
December 5, 201213 yr You need to contact Sean at RealAir via email, not Avsim. Sean holds the copyright on graphical parts of our products. it's entirely up to him to decide about this. Thanks. Robert Young - retired full time developer - see my Nexus Mod Page and my GitHub Mod page
December 7, 201213 yr Commercial Member So reading this thread...As far as i can tell, the problem isnt in the flight model, but a instrument calibration error? December 7, 201213 yr I'd be interested in the new instrument files as well. Gregg Gregg Seipp "A good landing is when you can walk away from the airplane. A great landing is when you can reuse it." i9 64GB RAM, GTX-5090
December 7, 201213 yr Email sent to Sean. I await his reply. No answer or a "no" answer means they WILL NOT be distributed. Should he say yes, I will post in this thread.
