Bye Bye Gamespy

Recommended Posts

Not sure this is the same thing FSX uses. It reads as a program started in 2011 FSX was much earlier than that! That said, even so they probably will disconnect FSX as well!!

Thanks

Yes, it is not clear if they are talking about the Licensed Gamespy content of FSX.

Time will tell.

If FSX Gamespy is dead, its a GREAT OPPORTUNITY for someone to develop & market an suitable alternative.

Yeah I definitely wouldn't agree that gamespy was one of the best things about FSX....

There are many other options for flying on-line, than Gamespy. Almost all are more reliable and better managed.

Does this mean we cannot have multiplayer sessions anymore?

NO .. but it does mean that the "Gamespy Match making" features of FSX will no longer allow one to select a Multiplayer Session from a list of those that have registered on Gamespy.

You can still connect by DIRECT IP ADDRESS, but there will no longer be the convenient list of "lobby session" to select from -- you will need to know the IP of the session you wish to join.

Those Multiplayer servers, like Vatsim, IVAO, Pilot Edge etc, that use their own Multiplayer Server systems, will not be affected by the loss of Gamespy.

Those FSX servers affected, are the ones that Individual Gamers run, and use Gamespy to list their presence.

=====

MS Flight Sim is just a very small segment of those games that use Gamespy.

Assuming that GLU has , in fact, closed down Gamespy, a lot of other gamers are going to quickly learn the name of the Company that KILLED off Gamespy in such an underhand and secretive way.

What are some of the other options for multiplayer online flying for fsx. My son lives 98 miles away and we enjoy online flying at least once or twice a week. Gamespy has presented problems though over the years.

So normal multiplayer is not possible in FSX anymore?

Hopefully there will be an alternative. If yes, good riddance to GameSpy.

This also means no more tower/radar option as well as no shared cockpit, which is going to suck bigtime for those who use it for training

I and others have started a conversation on Facebook if anyone wants to add their .02 on this, but please keep it calm and polite, we want to get this back, not tick them off....

No it does not mean that. There are still many alternatives to using GameSpy, such as simply one person deciding to be the "host" and providing an IP address to which others may connect.
