Setting DA

Hello,

 

I am looking for a fast way to set high DA values e.g. 7100 feet for high altitute airports.

 

It takes forever to set it the normal way :wacko:

Simply assign a keyboard key to it through the PMDG keyboard commands within the CDU. Much easier!

This will be fixed in SP2 most likely. The entire mechanism for the mins and baro knobs in the NGX is wrong in fact - the real thing isn't actually a knob that spins freely, it has stops in both directions and you turn and hold it. The values accelerate as you hold it and that's what solves this issue. It's on the list for fixing.

Very nice. It's been an annoyance for awhile. Not a big one but glad it's being fixed will make things easier.

In my understanding there are two options - maybe and old and a new one - on the RW aircraft. The one modeled in the NGX is the rotary knob, the other one is spring-loaded, ie. it can be turned 45° to the left/right and the longer it is kept in a position the faster the value increases/decreases. Personally I´d love to see this added in SP2 with the option so it is synched with the FO´s setting.

For now I will give the Key Command a try.

This is one item I have asked Bryan to include in FS2Crew so my FO will get 'wrist ache' instead, we could then just say "Baro 7100".

 

Those using FS2Crew, we need more people to lobby Bryan to get this included :smile:

Sounds like a bit of a stretch of credibility. No way would the F/O set the captain's DA in real life. Imagine how such a command might be received. "Set it yourself" maybe?

In the RW I agree, but we are talking about a PC simulation here. Have you tried winding the DH up to 7100 ft ??

Indeed! Did a recent flight from Orlando to Denver in the NGX. Started setting my baro minimums while still over Kansas, and finished up just before intercepting the ILS.

Well no, because DH is a radio height. ;-) I know the problem with setting DA at high altitude airports, but this is better fixed in the NGX itself by assigning keys. Trying to persuade Bryan to add an unrealistic control to FS2Crew is the wrong way to go about it in my view. FS2Crew is supposed to be about increasing realism, not labour saving.

Haha, you guys crack me up, I just sat wondering if I get a worse carpal tunnel syndrome by holding the button for an hour or scrolling the mousewheel a bit shorter :)

With hyper scroll mouse wheel it's possible set 7100 in 8 sec.
