Choice of Embraers....

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

TO ALL THOSE WHO OWN EITHER THE WILCO/FEELTHERE EMBRAER ERJ135/145 AND/OR THE EMBRAER 175/195!!!!

I don't know what to chose. I'm thinking i want an Embraer into my hanger, but i dont know which one.

I know both have fantastic FMS's (i take it, you can still make your own flight plan, right?)

I know both have excellent support for newer liveries, and can be easily downloaded

BUT I DON'T KNOW WHICH ONE TO GET!

Maybe even the CRJ Next Gen?!?!!

what do you guys think? I know they are 2 completely different airliners, but, i don't know, which one is nicer, more realistic?

Thanks Guys

-Andy

Andy,

Have them both. The 135 is to me the nicest to fly. Both unfortunately have very outdated panel graphics but are not so bad that it makes it displeasing to use them.

Enjoy

Before I discuss the 135/145/170/190, I would advise that you avoid the CRJ Next Gen. That product is based on very old code (going back even before FS9), and is a very poor performer. Very buggy, doesn't fly correctly, many of the cockpit buttons and displays are only eye candy, with no real functionality.

Until another CRJ comes on the market, you'd frankly be better off using the default CRJ-700 that comes with FSX.

Now, the other FeelThere regional jets are an entirely different matter.

I enjoy complex, highly detailed aircraft. I own the PMDG NGX, MD-11 and 747 and the Leonardo Maddog MD-80.

While the FeelThere regional Embraers are not quite on the same level as PMDG, they are certainly not junk by any means.

In the simulation, as in real life, the 170/175/190/195 are more complex than the 135/145.

The real and simulated 135/145 has FADEC controlled engines, but no autothrottle. The FADEC will automatically control thrust and speed in a climb, but the pilot must control engine thrust manually in cruise and descent. For this reason, the VNAV functions in the 135/145 are more basic.

The 170/190 series does have true autothrottle, and many more VNAV options as a result. The systems in the 170/190 are more complex, and the cockpit displays that show systems like electrics, hydraulics, etc are more rich (graphics-wise) than what you would find in the 135/145.

If you were to puchase either, I would suggest getting the very latest (V2) releases, as they have many improvements over the originals. I would also suggest purchasing directly from the FeelThere web site, NOT from Wilco.

You may enter your own flight plans into the FMS, just as you would in the real thing, and the FMS is supported by real world NAV data from either Navigraph or Aerosoft. Most all of the performance management modes are in the FMS that you would find on the real aircraft.

Both offerings are good aircraft IMHO. They hand fly well, and on my system at least have pretty good frame rates. Many users have complained that the night lighting in the virtual cockpits is poorly done (rather harsh looking), and while I can agree that this is a weakness in the FeelThere products, it has never been a show-stopper for me.

Overall, the 135/145 is less complex. If you don't have a lot of experience in flying complex aircraft, you might want to start out with that one. In any case, I think that any of the FT regional Embraers are good products, and worth the price charged.

Hey, I own the Feelthere ERJ Jets V.2 - it is a good product, it even works in P3D (I have completely moved to P3D, and I tested ERJ today in it). I am still a newbie in flying in sims but after reading tons of reviews - Feelthere ERJ V.2 (135-145 one) is the package to get. The only thing negative is night flying - the dome light effect virtual cockpit is hit or miss for some, but other than that - It is fantastic product overall with all the bells and whistles.

I think Jim Barrett has explained the differences very well.

Both are good.

The Erj 135/145 is better finished but less complex (no Vnav).

The E-jet is more challenging and interesting (flight guidance/Fms more

sophisticated then that of the 737), but has also some little flaws .

I personnally fly much more often the E-jet then the 135/145.

Andy,

Go for the e-jets version 2 175/195.

And...

If you search the avsim library, you will find updated air and cfg files for the 175/195.

I can only advise to install those updates which create an even more realistic behaviour.

The files are created by Paulo Palmeira and all credits go to him.

There are three files

E175LR

E195AR

E195LR

It is posible that there is also a 175AR but I have never been able to find it.

Hi Luc,

Wow - what timing - I own both but I was disappointed with the 175/195... I was just flying them over the weekend and while the FDE for the 135/145 feels realistic - that for the 175/195 feels toy like... The 135/145 has inertia when you roll - the larger has none - it feels like a default aircraft to me... I double checked and Rob Young was credited with the FDE and he is the master - so I was a bit surprised... I'll certainly try the updates you mentioned...

LOL - and what's up with the 2D Autopilot on the dash in the VC - not that I really mind - but what I found funny is that FeelThere spent the time to 3D model each and every key on the FMC - yet the much more prominent autopilot is flat as a board ? In addition - none of the lights work when you select a button on the autopilot - and - I find the button nomenclature unreadable without tooltips enabled...

Finally - while the 135/145 VC looks very good at night - the 175/195 night VC looks half finished... Even though your glass panel has obvious bezels in the 2D night view - they are nonexistent in the 3D... Looks a bit off...

Hands down - if you can buy only one - spend your money on the 135/145 - I think it's a much better package... Looking back - I would have skipped the 175/195 - but at least I caught the sale price...

I'm not really impressed with the FeelThere support either... There is definitely an issue with the 135/145 FMC crashing MSFS - it's been noted by more than me in both FS9 and FSX - and - they didn't seem very interested in looking at a 4 year old product... I can work around it now - but - it's still not right...

Scott

Hi Luc,

I did the original flight models for the first release of feelthere/Wilco E-jet Series. However my input was restricted to the hand flying, manual part of the FDE. As with many Feelthere aircraft, the autopilot FDE and settings pretty much over-ride the manual flying FDE through custom programming over which I had very little input or control.

Subsequent editions of the series were released and to be honest I do not know which contain my original FDE input and which do not. I have not been paid by Feelthere or Wilco for the later series which I assume are based on my original manual FDE work, and Wilco and Feelthere as I recall referred me to each other for payment, as it were passing the buck.

I therefore take no responsibility for any current Feelthere/Wilco output and have no association with either organisation currently.

Hi Rob,

Sorry if it sounded as if I was calling you out - that wasn't my intent - I'm a huge fan of your work and have thoroughly enjoyed many of your projects - in fact - I take the inclusion of your name as the official seal of approval on the FDE... FeelThere included it in every aircraft.cfg...

:)

In my experience, every Wilco/Feelthere FMS crashes FSX/FS9 if you push the buttons too fast in succession.
