ATC Spontaneous Cancelling of IFR Flight Plan

Featured Replies

Hi Folks-- As most of you who have logged a fair amount of hours with ACOF are aware, its ATC engine every once in awhile hits it out of the park, does a fairly adequate job more often than not, but occasionally COMPLETELY BOMBS. I'm not refering to the formation approaches or frequent "go arounds," (which are par for the course with addons such as UT or MyTraffic) which I've learned to live with, more or less.It is the goofy, inexplicable, hither and yon vectors that ATC gives, during approach phase, on some of the flights I've taken. :-newburn The worst of these experiences happened to me on my latest flight. I was doing an IFR in a bizjet from CYYZ to KSAN. The trip was flawless right from engine start on the ramp at CYYZ until I was about sixty miles from KSAN, on heading of approximately 235, basically right on track to the airport. Los Angeles Center advised me of my distance and direction from the field, instructed me to turn to a heading of 090 ???????? and to expect a visual approach to runway 27. I was perplexed as to why I was being vectored in the opposite direction from the airport. I heard them give identical instructions to a Southwest jet that I also surmised was bound for the same destination, so I decided to just follow the instructions and wait and see. (That was the last that I heard of the Southwest jet). I waited and waited, flying east, at my assigned altitude of 7500, getting further and further away from my destination. I was then switched to Yuma Approach(?????) at about 80 nm from KSAN, then ended up halfway back to Arizona, and over the Mexican border, then switched to Mexicali Approach (!?!?!?!). At approximately 100 nm from KSAN, after having wasted over twenty minutes being vectored away from my destination, I was told that my IFR flight plan was canceled, to squawk 1200, and that a frequency change was approved. :-8 I ended up having to navigate the nearly 100 miles to KSAN, VFR,arriving there nearly an hour later than I needed to.It is aggravating enough being vectored and then vectored again, far away from one's destination with no rhyme or reason for it, but then, after a four hour flight, to be vectored far away and having your flight plan canceled on you, and left on your own--ARRRGGGHHHH!!!! :-hang Any other similar experiences, especially for those using FS Navigator? Has anyone found a way around this?

Personally have never had a pleasant experience with FS9s ATC, usually the same sort of thing that you're describing with the added joy of being told to go around just as the wheels touch on an unobstructed runway.....hmmm, touch and go's in a loaded 747? As real as it gets? I don't think so.Radar Contact does a much better job, IMHO.I never fly with FS9's ATC ON anymore, just too much of an irritation to no purpose.Ed GreenKCLThttp://www.panelshop.com/DEV.jpghttp://www.globecargo.org/images/VAA_Sen_captain.jpg
