December 29, 201213 yr Jan, Some of us have known the same thing for years, hence I won't even name the packages. This last package I had never seen before so I HAD to download it to view its contents and sure enough it is like you said. I don't use them at all but to be informed you need to see.
December 29, 201213 yr Whats the best commercial alternative for WoAI that will work well with Vatsim? And does anyone know the easiest / most straight forward way to uninstall the WoAI textures? Soarbywire - Avionics Engineering
December 29, 201213 yr UT2 The WOAI installer program can also be used to uninstall. If you know what you are doing you can manually delete things, but I don't recommend this.
December 29, 201213 yr Jim, Well said and true. That is the only sure way to find out. Possibly Jan (at WOIA) had already downloaded and verified numerous sites ... just to verify. But I seen no mention of any specific sites. Too bad the sites that are currently hosting WOAI could just continue to do so without "official" support. Then the individual authors could individually remove their work or leave it up for Flight Simmers to enjoy. Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW
December 29, 201213 yr Maybe it is my opinion only. But these packages offered by several people violating laws. Even though the original work is freeware it does not mean that people can spread it. Mostly the freeware contains a readme file which clearly states that the upload to any other page without permission of the author as well as including it in a package is against the will of the creator. Downloading such a package encourages people to continue violating the law. We at WoAI always asked for permission. If it was granted we used the work. If not we did not use it. If it was granted first and later denied we made the packs unavailable. It is really sad to read such behaviour in the most visited flight simmer place. :( Jan WoAI Jan, Some of us have known the same thing for years, hence I won't even name the packages. Note that in the US at least, there is the notion in copyright law of "collective work", "compilation", and "derivative work" all have their own requirements concerning exclusive rights and infringement. See 17USC103. This is separate from the contributing author's rights. scott s. .
December 30, 201213 yr Once we get too 'legal' here it gets muddy doesn't it, given the original work almost entirely consists of use of registered trademarks without permission? I still support WOAI's right to take this down, but all this is based more on 'gentleman's agreements' rather than the law (note: not a lawyer). December 30, 201213 yr Hence the reason i refrained from naming names. Didnt intend to get you scolded Jskorna Na! Jan didn't understand that only downloaded in order to explore things, not use the files. I too don't believe in naming the packages. It was fun to come up with the clues!!
December 30, 201213 yr Jan @ WoAI mentioned something that I am curious about. If an author of a particular package passes away, what is the copyright situation? Does it simply have to be removed, and never seen again? December 31, 201213 yr Jan @ WoAI mentioned something that I am curious about. If an author of a particular package passes away, what is the copyright situation? Does it simply have to be removed, and never seen again? Well, when John Lennon died, did his copyrights disappear? But let's be realistic: do you think the estate is going to be worried about some flight sim files? scott s. .
December 31, 201213 yr Sure I downloaded those files when I came to know what could be inside. Without detailed knowledge we cannot take any actions My only concern was naming something like this here will increase the popularity of such things. Note that I even found payware in some packages.
December 31, 201213 yr Huh, and here I was waiting for someone to make a United paint for WoAI. Haha, guess I will have to choose between UT2 or MTX now. i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
December 31, 201213 yr I see United in WOAI aircraft download list. Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW
