World of AI is going to stop

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Bad news for WoAI.

Bad news for AI Traffic fanatics, World of AI will close on end of April 2013. They’ve produced for years hundreds of AI packages, easy and automatic to install, using real airlines schedules and quality AI aircraft produced by other groups like Aardvark.

But it seems like personal issues make them switch it off. Even the freeware files will be removed from the FS libraries over the web.

So sad, I've been using them for years :( oh well

FS2004 Forever

Terrible news as adding updated traffic will not be as easy as this package brought us. They squeezed out Delta but for the dynamic changes the airline industry has had Southwest's tack over of AirTran and United's merger with Continnental has still not made it to my sim. WOAI started throttling back in 2009 and my sim has virtually become a 2008 period sim. I was looking forward to a resurgence of WOAI or a viable alternative. To keep our sims current an easy way to add and remove traffic is sorely needed.

Frankly, their demands that all websites remove the WOAI packages from download libraries is both childish and pointless...

...actually, a bit like taking a leak upwind!

Those files have undoubtedly been mirrored to countless other file libraries throughout the World Wide Wasteland, and that's not even considering the "pirate sites."

Ah that is bad news. I have a bunch of their packages installed and, as Dillon says, it'll freeze the sim into a period piece. It is verging on spiteful to demand that their packs are removed from public access on other sites though -- what the hell do they have to gain from that??

I tried to say exactly that (and a few other things - probably too much) in another thread and got bashed for it but I agree with you.

I'm currently using MyTrafficX and I think they keep their schedules fairly well up to date. Not sure about UT2. Maybe Dillon and others can look into one of these addons?

Dillon, for FS9 there are United "New Livery" repaints for almost all the CO/United birds in the WOAI packages... I downloaded those then changed the AC repaints in their respective texture folders, changed the callsigns to match and nothing else which is perfect because the CO flights still operate like CO with CO parking but United new Livery and United callsign and the United fleet does the same. Every few months I change one of the Tulip or battleship liveries to the new to make it real :) I have an almost entirely new United Fleet using the old WOAI files :p0502:

Haven't modified (and used with permission) Woai planes found their way into some payware? And if that is true (and I ain't sure it is, just remember hearing it somewhere) how would this decision affect such planes?

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

i don't know the answer to your question- but the developers of WOAI have every right to do whatever they want to with their intellectual property. There are any number of reasons they may have chosen to demand their software disappear from the web and any website which might be offering it. From a liability perspective alone, this is probably a smart move, since there will no longer be ANY support offered.

FSX is starting to show its age, released in 2006 this makes it over 6 years old now. Impossible to continue to support software forever. POSKEY was another one that was too bad to go as well.

Good to see lots of developers continue to develop for FSX after all this time but not surprised if we lose a few along the way.

Didn't some of the POSKY devs go and join/start the Quality Wings company?? Maybe the WOAI guys will eventually do something similar. If they ever get into FS again that is...

Couple Project Opensky members are, indeed, over at QualityWings. Others are over at SkySpirit with the 767, 777, and 747-8, so while Project Opensky as a group is gone, the original modeler is still around over at SkySpirit.

Outstanding idea. Guess I'll be PM'ing you for more details on this. I haven't updated my Northwest fleet to Delta so I will be applying this method to that merger as well.

Again outstanding idea...

My only real point is that while I understand and support their absolute "right" to make the demands, unfortunately "reality" overcomes "rights" in this instance...

It should be pointed out to anyone not aware that WOAI never made any of those models themselves. They only had permission to repackage them and put it all in an installer, so if they close shop its only responsible to ask that all the data they've uploaded be pulled. Regardless of how spiteful and pointless it may seem their actions are based on principal.

Also for those of you still wanting more up to date freeware ai via installers and easy to use searches, you need only use Google. Not going to list names but I stopped stocking up on WOAI packs when they started slowing down output and searched around for other groups. One just released a comprehensive pack in April 2012 and has another planned release this coming January so they're definitely out there still
