World of AI is going to stop

Featured Replies

I read so many topics about the closure of WoAI now. Let me explain why we will pull the plug and I want to stop the rumours as well. Feel free to contact me in case I missed some details.

We at WoAI had a wonderful time creating and testing the packages and we enjoyed the positive feedback from the community. The number of downloads proved that our work was appreciated by many from the community. Many of you (including myself) started with the WoAI packages to populate their virtual skies.

After all those years some of us lost interest in FS completely others just don't have the time anymore. The reason why we have to remove the packages is the fact that we do not own the models/flightplans/repaints. This work was done by others which gave us permission to use their work for the time WoAI is around. Since we will shut down we will ask the library managers to remove all the packages to respect the authors will.

There is no plan to join/create a succeding group. With the above mentioned explanation it will not be possible to handover the permissions as these were solely given to WoAI - especially since some of the mentioned authors are not around anymore (e.g. Billy Rutherford).

If you have downloaded (or will download) our packages you can use them as long as you want. You do not have to remove them from your disk(s). BUT: you are not allowed to distribute them in any form including uploading them to any file hosting site.

On a side note: I read somewhere somebody guessing tax issues. This is definetly NOT the case. We had no income at any time. The bills for the provider and the site were paid by the management of WoAI.

For further questions feel free to ask me. Even after April 2013 I will be around from time to time and you can also reach me in the AIG or MAIW forums ("sprocky") where I am more frequently.

Thanks for all you did for the community! Best of luck in the future.

My only real point is that while I understand and support their absolute "right" to make the demands, unfortunately "reality" overcomes "rights" in this instance...

Their only "demands" are that WOAI is removed from AVSIM and FlightSim libraries. I expect that the "reality" is that will be complied with.

WoAI

Thanks for the explanation Jan. It's too bad the providers of your models etc (the ones that are still around) aren't willing to give you permission to leave your work up.

I will miss WOAI, but now that they're going, where can I get any actually decent AI Planes? I can't find that many, and most places I find them are on horribly uncatagorized websites that have no reference for finding any sort of specific thing. Where can I find some good and worthwhile (freeware, payware is usually awful and overpriced) AI packages?

Theres a package called Global AI Traffic. It's actually really complete, as the website shows. The site is in Spanish, and it takes a bit of navigating, but really the package they offer is great, and just as they say, it covers the whole globe AI wise. Not sure how this one has flown under the radar thought because it has never come up on Avsim. the website is http://www.gaitraffic.com/

You can get all the WOAI packages here on Avsim. WOAI is closing their site but all the packages will remain in the AVSIM library after WOAI closes down.

I think technically what they are doing is illegal, I don't think they got permission from those who made all the repaints, flightplans, AI aircraft models and such to use those in their pack.
