December 27, 201213 yr By the look of things Haswell will start selling in June. http://chinese.vr-zo...-2013-12252012/ Let's hope it's a good overclocker as well....
December 27, 201213 yr Sure hope these are good overclockers as well! If so, I'll likely be upgrading.
December 27, 201213 yr Argh...in the process of building a new rig but I hit a wall. Can't decide for old faithfull SB or newer but hotter IB. Now Haswell. June is a long time away though. December 27, 201213 yr Nice. I wonder how much performance will increase in FSX with Haswell. If it overclocks well too, it should be great compared to Ivy Bridge. I'm wondering, will constant 60 FPS ever be achieved in FSX?
December 27, 201213 yr Don't care. Not convinced anything will ever eclipse the I7 2700k performance. Specially for the $$.
December 27, 201213 yr I don't know much about haswell. Will it be fully compatible with ivy bridge mobo/memory etc - ie can i do an ivy build now and upgrade in june? December 27, 201213 yr AFAIK, Haswell will use a new socket called LGA 1150 so you will also need to purchase a new motherboard. December 28, 201213 yr Thanks twerner, though that makes my decision more difficult. I've been researching IB parts today for my second-yearly fsx computer rebuild. Anyone have any further info on whether Haswell is worth waiting for from a purely FSX perspective? December 28, 201213 yr June is later than I'd hoped but right in line with what I'd heard. Looks like a 2nd IVB system is in my future. For the record, Haswell ought to be 10-15% faster than IVB at the same clock speed. It's built on the same process as IVB but the process will be more mature and Haswell will be better suited for the process in addition to having much better power regulation so my personal belief is that Haswell will have better overclock ability but to what degree I don't know and won't guess.

Well, of course it will feature performance increases over Ivy Bridge, but at this moment nobody can tell you by how much exactly. If you can hold out until Haswell is released I think that would be the best. Save up until then and then you can really go for it! If you can hold out until Haswell is released I think that would be the best. Save up until then and then you can really go for it! Well, i figure every second christmas is fsx computer build time! But, yes, saving up for Haswell is attractive. My last build was a 'really go for it', but that was pre-SB...so I'm still living in i7 950 land. I'm also going for a Nvidia surround setup and suspect some extra processing power would be great. If only intel was keeping the sockets the same - it would be an easy call, IB now and plug in a new processor in june (or more realistically july/august, getting supply of mobos and chips sometimes takes a while). Maybe a cheap-ish IB build now and change to the new chip once the mobo drivers etc are sorted. In terms of reusing IB build bits - anyone know if the memory e.g. dual 2133 4gig sticks will be compatible with what's coming up? December 28, 201213 yr Looks to me like Haswell will continue to utilize Dual-Channel DDR3 just like the Ivy Bridge platform. You might just want to skip IB and keep the 950 until June/July. I'm guessing you have it overclocked as much as possible right now correct? It's a tough decision at the moment because you've got the GTX 7xx Series that will be released right around the same time that Haswell will hit the shelves... December 28, 201213 yr I thought seriously of waiting for Haswell but decided to go ahead and thrash my way through an Ivy build. Didn't want to wait for 6-8 months and more to the point, I don't like buying the first generation of anything. I did much better with a 980X than I did with my original 965x - I'd rather wait to see how Haswell shakes out and give them a chance to refine it if needed. So for me, Ivy now, and maybe Haswell toward the middle or end of the run, in late 2014 or thereabouts. Gives me something to plan for when Ivy starts to seem old... December 28, 201213 yr Looking forward to this too. I aready have some cash saved for my next new build but will wait and see what performance is like. But i'll trade the massive Noctua for watercooling for the IB/Haswell build, I think. The GtX 7xxx series...aargh. I just decided to buy a gtx680, whether or not I upgrade the processor/mobo.
