December 28, 201213 yr Ah I see, I did not know you just upgraded to a GTX 680! If it was me I would just keep the 950 + 680 setup and go for Broadwell as that is rumoured to have a bigger performance jump than going from Ivy --> Haswell. But since these are all just rumours at the moment there really isn't any point in speculating. It's your money so do what you wish! I'll be hanging on to my trusty 2500K until Broadwell or Skylake. Interested in seeing more news about Haswell though as it's rumoured to be a better overclocker than IB. December 28, 201213 yr Better overclocking? Lets hope. The trend may be less overclocking in the future as intel crams more in with less space for thermal dissipation. IB may be the beginning of that trend. At the least intel should reconsider there method of heat dissipation at the heat spreader. With IB this was a huge flop. The problem is not one of transistor density. Changing the thermal paste under the IHS has proven this for many an IVB user.
December 28, 201213 yr I've read a few articles in regards to the future of OC and it looks a little grim, I could be wrong....Deciding between Ivy and Sandy was a tough one for me. But it really came down to whether I was willing to potentially butcher a cpu and loose $300+ and i wasn't prepared for that at this point. Particularly since Ivy provides negligible benefit on an FSX specific rig. Not sure we have quantified the benefits definitively yet. We really should not have to dismantle a heat spreader on a CPU to get full performance. I mean come on Intel. No point in beating that dead horse though since this was argued about many many months ago now. But it really came down to whether I was willing to potentially butcher a cpu and loose $300+ and i wasn't prepared for that at this point. I've done 4 and they all function great, tangible OC increases accompany drastic temperature decreases. Particularly since Ivy provides negligible benefit on an FSX specific rig. Not sure we have quantified the benefits definitively yet. Have you seen the FSX Mark 11 numbers? All Ivy systems at the top of the list, aside from the liquid nitrogen cooled results from Hasse (not joking). We really should not have to dismantle a heat spreader on a CPU to get full performance. I mean come on Intel. No point in beating that dead horse though since this was argued about many many months ago now. I hear you. It is an easy fix though.
December 29, 201213 yr Have you seen the FSX Mark 11 numbers? All Ivy systems at the top of the list, aside from the liquid nitrogen cooled results from Hasse (not joking). My run with 2700K was with watercooling chiller +10c water as with the 3770K then a made some runs with Phase Change 3770k. The SB has a nasty ColdBug no benefit with LN2 but the 3770k should do well ,shall do a test when migrate to Haswell . Its crystal clear for me that IVY performs better than SB in FSX ( I run IVY now as main FSX P3D PC have the SB as second PC.) I have booth, it would be stupid to not run the fastest as FSX PC . http://

December 29, 201213 yr One of the best indepth articles I have read so far on Haswell, http://www.anandtech.com/show/6355/intels-haswell-architecture Ralph Peebles
