Free runway detail textures & payware project preview

I have two things to show you guys, and one thing to put as free download in the file library.

First mini project I finished today are runway detail textures, that are NOT used in default FSX and by the REX team, I don't have a clue why.

Note - I used tarmac runway texture from REX on this shots, TML=2048.

Comparison shots:

default: (REX tarmac runway texture)

Runway Detail Textures:

tarmac:

fine:

rough: (I prefer this one)

As you can see the difference is huge, it's like the runway textures are 8192p or more. Runway detail texture is acting like a bump map, clearly.

I will add the link as soon it appears in the file library!

I'm definitely interested in your runway and tarmac textures! I've gone through all of the options for REX essentials + OD and I really can't find one that just looks natural.

Yours seem to fall into that category.

Love the building textures, especially the night one.

Thanks guys.

Note that the night textures are incomplete, only main windows texture is done.

Those night window textures are really, really nice!

That looks very nice Pe11e. Perhaps when you're done with these you could rework the FSX autogen buildings. They've been bugging me for years. Far too white and bright for starters.

That looks fantastic!

Thanks for your effort.

I will presume that you like both projects that I presented here, so thank you. :)

Honestly guys, what do you think about complete airports buildings texture overhaul project? How many users will be interested to buy this kind of product, since lot of users are using only payware airports because they can, i7's over 4ghz or more. I'm one of the users that are using only default airports, since I'm getting ~15-20fps with payware ones on final with more complex airplanes, which is unacceptable for me. With default airports I'm getting 30+ on final.

If I mantain the quality of textures in this project (towards visual realism), do you think that it can be success, popular with number of users?

This is a really important question for me, so you will be very helpful with your answers!

cheers and thanks!

Seems good, if this increase the feeling of all fsx airport then you have something interesting..

Why doesn't anyone make runway textures with the grooves going across the runway? Most runways are like that to wick water off the surface? Just sayin...

I agree about the grooving across the runways. Also, most textures have too grey of a tone to them. Concrete has a VERY slight creamy tone to it that I've rarely scene in replacement textures. Hopefully Pe11e can accomplish this.

Hmmmm, autogen texture overhaul is a very complex project, huge number of textures. Maybe I will do it after airport overhaul, but I'm thinking it is a waste of time and resources.

I can confirm that REX have 2 or 3 concrete runway textures with grooves. One of them has that slight creamy tone. My concrete taxiway texture has a slight creamy tone, check my first post. I have a plan to do a concrete runway texture with grooves, but as I said REX already has it.

And as I promised here is the link for Runway Detail Texture Set: http://library.avsim...isc&DLID=174643

Note that I switched the phrase CONCRETE with TARMAC in the readme file and also in the first post, idiot.
