Hi guys, In the next few months I will be building/getting a new system primarily for FSX and future game releases.

The system spec's I have in mind are as follows:

 

Intel Six Core i7-3970X (3.5GHz @ max 4.8GHz OC)

ASUS P9X79 LE: Intel Socket LG2011

16GB Kingston Hyperx Genesis Quad-DDR3 1600MHz

X2 4GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 - 2DVI, HDMI DP - 3D Vision Ready

480GB Intel 520 Series SSD, SATA 6 Gb/s (upto 550MB/sR | 520MB/sW)

1TB 3.5" SATA - III 6GB/s HDD 7200RPM 32MB Cache

4x Blu-Ray ROM Drive, 16x DVD ROM

CORSAIR 850W Enthusiast Series TX850 V2-80 Plus Bronze

Intel Certified Liquid CPU Cooler For Socket LG2011

2 x 12cm Black Case Fan

AeroCool Touch 2000 LCD Touch Screen 4 Fan Controller + 2 x Front USB

Onboard 8 Channel (7.1) High Def Audio

Dual-Band Wireless 802.11N 450Mbps PCI-E Card

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit w/SP1

 

I'm guessing FSX will perform remarkably well on this system spec!? Feel free to shed a few pounds off and let me know.

Your build seems awesome but let me tell you, that’s an overkill!

Because the specs that you have are just too much for almost any game up to this date..

FSX in the other hand love to take good chunk of load to the CPU instead of the graphics card,

So let me change some items that will save you a lot of money,

With unnoticeable performance drop in FSX & other games.

 

- Intel Six Core i7-3970X (3.5GHz @ max 4.8GHz OC)

“ Go with the i7-3930K.. it’s half the price with almost the same amount of muscles! "

+ I recommend going with i7-3770K and save your self $800,

note if you choose so you will have to change the motherboard too.

“ Keep the same motherboard if you choose the 2011 socket, or change it if you choose other CPU ”

- 16GB Kingston Hyperx Genesis Quad-DDR3 1600MHz

“ That’s just an overkill for FSX use, save the $500 and stick with only one GTX 680,

This thing is a beast.. & I’ve seen it performing in FSX & other games! ”

“ Go with something like 240GB for the system and FSX, the rest go in the hard drive ”

- 1TB 3.5" SATA - III 6GB/s HDD 7200RPM 32MB Cache

- 4x Blu-Ray ROM Drive, 16x DVD ROM

" Do you really need a Blu-Ray drive? your choice though "

“ Go with AX750, AX850 if you are going to overclock your 2011 CPU,

These CPU's really like to be powered good ”

“A big NO, stick with H100i, period.”

- Dual-Band Wireless 802.11N 450Mbps PCI-E Card

- Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit w/SP1

 

Money saved “$1500” with very little performance drop, that’s if any!

Although people have tried similar specification of your build with the FSX..

They all failed to achieve the "perfect" smooth performance that you imagine that you will achieve!!

And that's because of FSX it self, it just won't work very well with the hardware that we have.

I don't understand why you've gone overkill with all or your other components but chosen the cheapest motherboard in the P9X79 range. You may have decided you don't need the extra features but I would definately pay the extra to upgrade just to the standard version to gain the Intel LAN chipset over the budget Realtek option.

 

I would echo aviator8 in his suggestion that if you must go with a closed loop watercooler the H100i would be the one to go for.

I have followed your advice and have changed a few things around... Where I'm getting the computer from is (www.pcspecialist.co.uk).

 

In the computer build section they don't give the exact components you are recommending.

 

With most of the components you suggested I have saved around £800-900

Here's what I have changed:

 

Intel Six Core i7-3930K (3.2GHz @ max 4.6GHz)

Asus Sabertooth X79: Socket 2011, R.O.G

(x1) 4GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 How does the GTX 690 Dual GPU 3 x DVI-I 1x mDP perform, would you recommend it or will I just stick with the GTX 680?

Sticking with the 16GB RAM and HDD/SSD selection...
