FMC tutorial for PMDG 737

Recommended Posts

I recently got the pmdg 737 but i would like to be able to plan my own routes but have had no luck in finding a more general tutorial nor am i able to find charts for airports so that i can find the SID and/or Stars to use. Ex. i want to fly from Hobby (KHOU) to Dallas Love(KDAL), I was able to find the nav points that are used on this flight, but i have no idea how to enter them. What i have is KHOU.STELL2.CQY.DUMPY2.KDAL. I would like to take off from runway 4 at Hobby(KHOU) and land at 31R at Dallas(KDAL).

Here you go. Charts.

STELL2.CQY.DUMPY2

STELL2 is the SID (Although, that is probably outdated. The current one is Cried Four Dep), that will take you to CQY, which is Cedar Creek VORTAC and DUMPY2 (Current Dumpy 3) is the STAR.

As for how to enter SID/STARs into the FMC, it's all in the documentation from PMDG.

Below are links to some worked examples you can find in the Avsim PMDG NGX forum. These cover different routes but should provide you with the fundamentals to create your own routes. The PMDG NGX tutorials are also useful.

Hope this helps.

What I do is use FSCommander (there is a free full-featured demo) which allows you to easily make flight plans including SIDs and STARS. As I already mentioned elsewhere, just to see, I programmed the tutorial flight plan with FSC in about 2 minutes. You can see the stars and SIDs on the map as you select them, so you don't end up with corkscrew approaches which is what happens if you try to program directly in the FMC. You can save flight plans in PMDG and other formats (paid version only).

Plan G is somewhat similar but not as complete, but it is free.

A more realistic but more troublesome way is to use charts, but it is a PITA to find the ones you need unless you use a program like Simplates X Ultra, that has all the required charts for most of the World.I use the Ipad version which does not take up space on my computer competing with FSX.
