February 4, 201313 yr The B377 has a little utility that allows selecting individual engines, but I don't remember ever messing much with it. The B-17G has a MAP selector that has the ability to adjust each engine w/ the mouse
February 4, 201313 yr One question that has came to my mind is this. Is it some kind of limitation that I don't have a throttle quadrant that can control each of the four engines individually. I have the CH Flight Sim yoke with one lever for throttle prop mixture I have the CH yoke myself. I have no problems controlling the engines. The pilot has one master RPM lever, four throttles and four mixture levers. I typically don't control the engines individually, and most of the fine tuning is done from the engineer's station anyway. The control selector is a cool little utility. For example, you want to use differential thrust to turn, you bring up the selector, click on the two engines on one side, click Select and the throttle controls only those two engines. To get back to normal, click on the Select button twice. I use Captain of the Ship, and the B377 doesn't have to be any more difficult to fly than a normal aircraft. I let my flight engineer handle everything and he's done a good job so far. If I wanted I could turn him off and do it all myself, or only assign some tasks to him. It's fun monitoring his engine gauges even if you don't control the whole thing yourself. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
February 4, 201313 yr Author The Accusim P-40, P-51s (D & civvy) & Spitfire high on my "purchase priority" list. I now consider trying one of these four A2A planes of course with the accusim pack. P-40 P-47 Spitfire P-51 Question which one ? Are they all absolutely equal or is some slightly better ?
February 5, 201313 yr Of those on your list I only own the P-51, both the classic military and the more modern civilian version, and I love it! And it's really a fast bird! Probably one of the figthers, that are the most fun to fly, thanks to the Accusim module. It really matters, when you do something wrong. Florian
February 5, 201313 yr Question which one ? Are they all absolutely equal or is some slightly better ? Of those listed I have just the P-47 Accusim (I have two previous versions of the A2A P-47 and A2A's FS9 P-51D/H and FSX P-51D "Snooks") Based on previous experience... my guess which one is "best" will come down to a matter of personal preference. Just as each one looks different... each has it's own flight characteristics. P-47 & P-51 w/ tanks have long legs... but the P-47 is more "truck-like". Now I own a truck... and I (for lack of a better word) love trucks. I thoroughly enjoy flying it and the "sportier" P-51. Both have great lines. As does the Spitfire... beautiful lines and handling in its own right... just not the range of the previous two (no ext. tanks). The P-40... maybe it has a special place in one's heart because of say... watching "Flying Tigers" w/ John Wayne. If you took a vote here... I think more would land in the P-51's lap (as OE-LAT described and it's prominent role in history)... but the others are quite conspicuous types too. Maybe read the Wiki on each combined with some sort of preference you might have.
February 5, 201313 yr I have the P40, probably because it doesn't have he popularity of its later cousins. If I were to get another, it would bit the Spitfire, because, well... it's a Spitfire. Military aeroplanes don't have to be as complicated as their airliner relatives for a couple of reasons: If the bad guys are blasting over the border at high subsonic, the last thing you can afford to do is spend time on a lengthy checklist. I gather the first thing started in the F15 was the IRS (master electrics aside), and by the time it was on line everything else was done. If something goes wrong there are generally more escape options than in an airliner... Mike Dryden

I have discovered that the the P 51 can be purchased in the dedicated combatsim DCS World so I think I would rather buy it there. So for FSX I will pass on that. The limited range of the spitfire is no problem with me. Thanks for the movie tip flying tigers. Found it on youtube.
