The more I use XP, the more I enjoy the simplicity of things. Today for instance, I wanted to install an instrument package on a network PC, for my C172 MIP display.

 

I unzipped the package onto the client PC desktop and moved a folder into the plugins folder of XP.

 

Started the instruments, opened the config window and entered the IP of the machine where XP is installed.

 

I then ran XP, went to plugins and selected the option for the instruments package. There, I entered the IP of the client PC.

 

Done! Everything was working!

 

Didn't have to purchase a 3rd party software to enable communication between the sim and other PCs on the network. Nor did I need to dig up some SDK in the sim's original DVD to install another software to allow network communication. Nor open up 20,000 .cfg or .ini files on all PCs to enter parameters.

 

Nop, it took me all but 5 minutes, and this includes booting up the PCs and running the sim. No hassles, no headaches.

 

It's little things like these that really allows one more play time instead of fiddling with .cfg files ad nauseum.

No, seriously, it IS cool. That sort of plug n' play functionality is awesome and worth telling about. You never know if someone else wanting to use flight sim hardware is wondering whether or not setting it up with XP is a PITA, so this kind of post is great.

I guess success stories aren't too popular around here. If it was a thread blasting XP's interconnectivity, the thread would have been blowing up ranging from how bad the cloud depictions are to how horrible the flight models are. While praising how awesome SimConnect is. :lol:

If you are baiting, then yes the same can be done in the other sim with other plugins which are not the $$ one referred to.

 

I am a huge fan of cockpit building though so I am glad you got it working pretty easily, now if only xpx would let us export our gauges to another screen without having to do any of that, like the other sim does

What type of cockpit are you building? If it's a C172 type, the gauges from Fly Elise-NG are awesome!

Funny thing is Project Magenta work great with XP using XPUIPC, from what I've heard. Anything that can already use FSUIPC can and should use XPUIPC natively. The other thing is that XPUIPC can be configured to use datarefs in the sim that it doesn't already do. If you find that a variable isn't modeled in FSUIPC, you can add it by (yes i know, not completely simple) editing the config file that it comes with, detailing the DataRef and what to do with the data to convert it to a value that is similar to what FS delivers (convert from Feet to Meters, inches mercury to millibars, etc).

What type of cockpit are you building? If it's a C172 type, the gauges from Fly Elise-NG are awesome!

 

I am building an A10 pit, hopefully mine will get done sometime as I have done a couple others since starting mine for other people! Mine is using DCS though. Al planes are similar enough that I still have everything I want to fly GA in xpx though.
