Library suggestions

Recommended Posts

I was going to mention this in an existing FS9 thread, but I realized there was probably a better place to bring it up. Please, please don't take the following as any sort of offense to the wonderful resource that the library is, or to any of those that graciously contribute their time and effort to making it such.

Lately, my use of the library has increased hugely, largely in part to my efforts at populating my regular airspace with a huge variety of AI. As such, there's been more than a few times where finding the files I needed (ie. AI base models) have proved frustrating, to say the least.

Which got me thinking of a few things:

a) the library could really use some better filtering options (perhaps I'm overlooking something obvious, but the ability to define a search of 'term 1 + term 2' and having it return results that only contain both terms would be utterly superb)

B) the AI Aircraft category should really be two categories - 'Base AI Models' and 'AI Repaints'

c) What would be the possibility of setting up some pages under the content tab that could function primarily as category main pages? For example, a content page that details and lists the base models for AI that you can find in the library. Or, perhaps a content page that details freeware planes found in the library. One could go on forever here, but surely there a few categories that could use this kind of coverage. Surely I'm not the only person that has stumbled across a file in the library and went 'Holy ****, I want that, i had no idea it existed!'

Using and/or expressions work also.

Along with * and ?.

Holy smokes. I was just about to ask how to use the 'and' operator, having tried various combinations of '+' in my search term, and I just thought of literally using the word 'and'... I guess I could withdraw my first suggestion.

That said, in the FAQ, under 'How To Search', it would be great if that were listed as an example. It might be obvious in retrospect, but it drove me crazy for quite awhile!

Its not possible to split the existing AI categories into two - repaints and aircraft. It would result in numerous issues and the loss of AI files. Creating a new AI aircraft category and moving AI aircraft packs files there manually (after searching through all AI files) would take enormous effort and all of our time - we can't do it either for the time being.

The rest is stuff suggested before and we've been looking at ways to possibly add it to the current library. There are a number of other items we're currently working on that have higher priorities. So I can't promise you any dates/schedules for the possible appearance of new features.

Its there on both Quick Search and Extended Search screens:

'You can search for text or filenames. Wildcards (* and ?) are understood.'
