multi monitor using onboard AND GTX 670

Featured Replies

Hey folks,

Im running a 24" monitor using the GTX's VGA -DVI-I connector, how do i connect a 2nd monitor up?

My options are the asus on board VGA, and a DVI-D,

If i connect a 2nd monitor up, am i able to run full screen on my main monitor and windowed mode on the onboard VGA? so i can use the 2nd monitor for charts etc? or do i need to run my main monitor on windowed mode so 2nd monitor is windowed mode,

Do i need to use the DVI-I conector?

What are my options here? In my bios VGA is enabled(IGPU i think)

Thanks

Just bringing this up again,

I am still getting tearing in full screen mode, so i use full screen mode,

I use the VGA(monitor) to DVI-I into the graphics card - i am assumin for a second monitor i need to go VGA - DVI-D? wich i am assuming will make my second monitor full screen also?

Is it possible to use the onboard graphics (windowed mode) while using my main monitor(24") full screen?

How do others set up theirs using these cards?

Thanks

Paul

Your gpu has four outlets. Get the according converter and plug into gpu. No need for onboard graphics. Any online tech store would have whatever connector/converter you need.

thanks crewe, i have ordered a vg-dvi-d adaptor, - do i need to be in windowed mode on my main monitor for it to be in windowed mode on secondary also?

My old set up, was if i was full screen on main it rendered the secondary monitor useless.

Thanks

Hi, Paul. I'm not sure, mate. I used to have windowed mode to start with, then I'd open the 2D panels of my choice, and FMC, and drag those onto secondary monitor (Acer touch 23"), then un-window FSX again. Your 2ndary monitor not a touch, but never mind, use mouse.

reminds me, there was this tweak that reduced the windows frame to an absolute minimum. Or are you using that already?

Hi Crewe, at present i aint using any tweaks, i dont have a second monitor connected up yet as i have only just ordered a VGA-DVI-D adaptor, but when i had my old pc, using nvidia's dual view(although working independantly from each other) when i went full screen on my main, it then blanked out second monitor which rendered it useless for anything else.

I now have a 24" for my main and my old 17" for my secondary that i was hoping i could use for charts/servinfo etc etc, - i realise that they will be 2 different res's but thats easily configured(given that i use windowed mode).

A link to this tweak would be good? :) if you were to be able to find it.

Thanks

Paul

I'll try...

...which links to our very own library, but somehow I couldn´t access on iPad.

No worries, my friend, glad I could help. Try the adapter first, see how it fares without windowed mode, in nVidia control panel you should be able to set the two screens up, so they work independently. I´m assuming you want one screen for the sim and the other for checklists, teamspeak or whatever...

Hi crewe,

Just got my adaptor, and the only way i can get second monitor working is using the mobos VGA output - (i didnt need the adaptor after all) but i would rather not use the mobos onboard if i can help it as i am assuming it will take cpu power from fsx to run the 2nd monitor.

Ive used nvidia control panel before to set up multiple displays, but this time it wont find the 2nd monitor, (in dual view and not clone mode - obviously :) )

If i try detect missing display and click "rigorous display detection" i get "was unable to find additional displays" and asks me if i want the television connecton enabled" which i am assuming i do not want?

Regards

Paul

EDIT : yes its to run ndac charts t/s etc etc

EDIT 2 : i think the VGA-DVI-D adaptor is guff, - with igpu enabled in bios, the 2nd monitor works using the VGA port on the mobo, but not on the DVI-D port on the mobo, so i guess thats why NCP doesnt pick the 2nd monitor up when connected via the DVI-D port

Also in post #4 i made a typo, - "I am still getting tearing in full screen mode, so i use full screen mode,"

Should have been "im getting tearing in windowed mode so i use full screen mode" - which i hope to fix so i can use 2nd monitor :)

Thanks

Hope this works then. Disable iGPU. Switch the outputs on your gpu. Insert the converter in the DVI-I, that port should carry an analog signal besides the digital, connect VGA-screen to it.

Plug DVI-monitor in DVI-D, DVI-D has only digital signal. In nVidia settings, or right click desktop/settings, you can switch the pictures...drum roll....
