Quito - Ecuador gets a brand new Airport

Featured Replies

Am still amazed....in only just over 6 years, they have built a WHOLE new airport to replace good old SEQU in Quito, Ecuador.

Spurred on by the Iberia A340-600 overrun in 2006 (http://avherald.com/h?article=422bdd7d) , the Government fast-tracked the reaplacement airport, which was built 18kms away from the city, the new ICAO designator is SEQM.

I still say I am amazed...here it has taken over 15 years to start contruction of a much needed parallel runway for YBBN, and as for the replacement of Sydney airport...well, let's just not go there.

It's amazing what can get done when the powers that be don't drag things out for suspect reasons.

When the bridge collapsed up here in Minneapolis they built the new one pretty fast. In contrast a bridge down the river took three years to make repairs. The bridge didn't fall or fail they just took forever to make repairs.
