Life as an Airline Pilot - Via Dubai (KLM MD-11)

Featured Replies

Awesome video, great find. The European version of Rodrigo Davi it looks like. Liked the music at the start too, must look up that remix.

Always thought the MD-11 would be an interesting bird to fly, I'll probably never know at this stage now, they're almost all being retired or sent to freighter companies...

That's an amazing video- pretty much sums up why I want to be a airline pilot.

I was jumpseating with a MD-11 Captain for FedEx and he loves the jet. The landings can be difficult to the newer guys and he said he has seen some pretty good porpoising when the rear hit a little hard.

Yeh, I've jump seated in one a couple times back when we used have them flying for us, interesting birds to say the least, I felt quite at home in them. Difficult to land indeed seems to be the common line from MD11 pilots... Quite unstable in the pitch...

When they were descending thru the clouds, and they were whipping by,I thought to myself, will I get to see that in my lifetime,in a sim?

Awesome video. Sometimes these get tough to watch as, it's basically, an unrealised dream for me.

I have met pilots who always complain about something related to the flying part of their jobs. Some. Not all. But when I see those types I always think of myself and hundreds on this forum that would trade jobs with them in a heartbeat. So what you got stuck with KCLE KMCI KRDU KEWR rinse and repeat... So what it's not as glamorous as OMDB sight seeing. I'd take it in a heart beat and I think many of us on here would as well....

Anyway great vid.

Great video, and it brings back memories of my flying in the PMDG MD-11. Yep, landings are tough, and I've seen so many youtube videos with them bouncing on main gear touchdown. I'm looking forward to taking the PMDG T7 to OMDB in the near future!

These "life as an airliner pilot" videos are gems, I remember seeing one with a 737NG a few weeks back, I'm in awe of the author's cinematography.

Reality Is For People Who Can't Handle Simulation!

I agree with everyone here, this is a great video. 90% of us will never see this in real life but what's cool about technology today is we can simulate this flight with detailed city/airports for both Amsterdam and Dubai. 10 years ago this wouldn't be possible with the detail we have today. We are the first generation with the ability to do this outside of having to be a real pilot. My father couldn't have dreamed of what we have today and he loved flying.

That being said nothing takes away from really being there in real live and arriving as an airline pilot flying into the city. I'd love to stay at a few of those hotels in Dubai and tour the city.

Here's another reality here in the US for pilots starting out. Don't know how one climbs to the status of an Amsterdam to Dubai route in Europe as it's harder to get into aviation on that side of the pond than it is in the US:

Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR

It was so nice to have a news piece that spells out the career exactly. If I wasn't tainted by corporate life first I would be still in the rat race.

An HD video with an MD-11 in it - whats not to like ? :)

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.
