A330 Question

On the A330, there are two gauges that I guess come as an option. They are located to the left of the PFD (captain seat), right of PFD (copilot seat). I tried to find out what they were, but Airliners.net doesn't have all too many photos of the flight deck.Here's what I'm talking about (right under the light to the left of the PFD). http://www.airliners.net/open.file/275916/L/The only picture with one of those gauges installed: http://www.airliners.net/open.file/066183/L/Anyone know what can be installed there?

Hmmm, I guess it could be for an additional airspeed indicator. Some 767s, for example, have the analogue indicator left out, as the speed tape on the PFD is sufficient (KLM, for example).I'm just guessing here, but the shape and size would fit :).Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg

I was also thinking it might be an airspeed indicator or something, but if you look at this photo, all the backups are in the middle and they include and airpeed indicator, altimeter, HSI, and a compass. Yes, but those are the standby instruments. In the case of the 767, I was referring to a duplication of the primary instruments. Hi Guys,It's actually one of those places to put your coffee cup. However it only works during steep descents:)Really it's probably for an other airspeed indicator or similar instrument as mentioned in a previous post. All the Air Transat A330's I've been on had that spot empty. I've a friend who works for Air Canada, I'll ask him if AC's 330's have a gauge there the next time I see him.KyleCF-AOA

I was just at A340.net and watched some videos. I saw the same thing on the 340. If you click on the cockpit link, and get to the "cupholder" it says that it's a loudspeaker and you hear "Forty" from the GPWS. So maybe it's a speaker for the ground proximity, maybe something else.

The loudspeaker is the lower "instrument". My only guess for the upper one is that it's an angle-of-attack indicator. It is labeled as "SPACE" in my A330 manual...Martin767 fetishistIt's a lot like life and that's what's appealing
