March 24, 201313 yr May I ask what is your problem man? I don't do any less multitasking nowadays as I did with 7, Vista or XP. So you have found a way to get Metro apps to multi task ? Best let microsoft know, they may hire you
March 24, 201313 yr sorry to disappoint but I wasn't talking about multitasking between Metro apps. Ivan Majetic ROG CROSSHAIR X670E HERO; 7900X3D; NZXT KRAKEN ELITE 360, GIGABYTE RTX 4080; G.SKILL TridentZ NEO RGB DDR5 64 Gb, WD HDD 2TB, SAMSUNG 980PRO, SAMSUNG 970EVO Plus 2x, ALIENWARE 3423DWF

March 24, 201313 yr There is the general insistence on the part of content providers to wield absolute control over us after the purchase. While there is an up and coming generation of sheeple that are quite content with this model because it is all they have ever known, for those of us that remember what it used to be like, it is an incredibly bitter pill to swallow. I understand why companies are doing this. The old model provided a huge infusion of cash at product release but then nothing for years. The new model is to leech money off of us a nickle at a time. Some of us have done the math in our heads and realize we are getting less for more in the end, even if the upfront cost is less. I hate the model and can see it driving me away from PC entertainment all together.
March 24, 201313 yr How is the inability to turn off UAC working for you? It's things like this that cause me not to move to it. The more the corporations 'tell us' what we want and need, the less we want them. There's human nature in that. The whole world moves towards a type of slavery to do with corporations inviting themselves - more and more intimately, regularly and aggressively - into our lives. It suits the corporate, and it suits shareholders - but often not consumers. Where Windows 8 is concerned, ultimately for me, it's about a few specific things such as this inability to turn off the annoying and pointless UAC, but also as @ very rightly said, there's just no compelling reason to want it, aside from the "I gotta have the newest number" syndrome that has people who own perfectly good iPhone 4S's, going out and buying an iPhone 5. More money than sense? ........... not a problem I have unfortunately!
March 25, 201313 yr Windows 8 is a joke, since consumer preview. What a waste of bandwidth I had downloading that crap. I'm not even talking about the metro crap, but more of how the removed features from Windows 7. I'm NOT paying for Windows Media Player... i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
March 25, 201313 yr Moderator May I ask what is your problem man? I don't actually have a problem, other than it took two days of intense effort to reconfigure the one test machine on which I'd installed Win8 such that I could actually do what I wanted to do with it. At the end, aside from the incredibly fast boot speed*, it now looks and behaves just like Win7... *Nota bene: since I rarely reboot my networked machines, the incredibly fast boot speed isn't much of a boon at all. March 25, 201313 yr Windows 8 is a joke, since consumer preview. What a waste of bandwidth I had downloading that crap. I'm not even talking about the metro crap, but more of how the removed features from Windows 7. I'm NOT paying for Windows Media Player... Which is kinda what I meant earlier. There was a short time when Win8 was very cheap, and I might have been tempted by pure curiosity at that point, but beyond the quick boot time I haven't heard of a single "must have" feature to justify the inevitable time, effort and learning curve of switching to a new OS. And that's coming from somebody pretty at ease with computers. For the average user just wanting to web surf and check their emails and maybe play Farmville, there's even less incentive to switch; especially when paying more than $100 for the privilege. March 25, 201313 yr I dont think Microsoft ever expected to make money from individuals upgrading their operating system. The real moneys elsewhere. Maybe not single users, but the whole market is humongous. With 600 million sales, Windows 7 closes on XP (Around June 2012) Desktop Top Operating System Share Trend 600,000,000 copies sold x $200.00 US Dlls = $120,000,000,000.00 US Dlls. (AKA gazillion Dollars) That might be gross sales; net profit, I don’t know. Ramón. Time, is the one thing no one can buy.
March 25, 201313 yr Vista was just downright bad. It performed terribly and had numerous bugs I never had a problem with it. March 25, 201313 yr I did beta test Win8 on an old laptop but never got into the Metro interface. I use Windows 7 on all our machines and now use SSD's so boot time is no longer an issue for us. I will stick with Windows 7 for years to come, like FSX, the faster the machines are, the better Windows 7 is. Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
March 25, 201313 yr What I think that most of the people who criticize Win8 have never even tired them in person...by the way... nobody is forcing you to install Win8. You have 7, Vista, XP among others and be merry with them. And stop criticizing us who have and use Win8 without issues. March 25, 201313 yr Only Win8 issue I have had is in coming out of sleep/suspend, but that may be hardware related (have it installed on older Q6600 system). That being said I d/led a couple free metro apps, haven't seen anything with wow factor, and I don't care for the app usage model (full screen with switch between apps). Maybe that means I'm old, but I like many windows open on desktop. scott s. .
