September 11, 200421 yr Hi,has anyone tried this at all, I never knew about this anomoly in FS9, can anyone show me this with a few screen shots please, this sounds very weirdthanks,Steve."Journey to the Center of the Earth" Challenge. Their last effort was a serious IFR challenge, a non-precision approach with a custom-recorded ATC adventure into a busy LA airport. This time they thought they would depart from serious flying and have a little fun, taking advantage of an anomaly in the FS2004 default terrain mesh. TweakFS is awarding a free copy of the TweakFS Utility Collection CD-ROM to whoever can fly the deepest into a hole created by a spike that is found in the FS2004 default mesh in Guyana, South America. Believe it or not but it takes a bit of concentration to fly straight down and not hit the sides of the abyss. An altitude of over (or under!) negative 100,000ft has been previously achieved! To get the details and download the TweakFS Challenge,
September 11, 200421 yr Well, you could download tweaks' challenge to find out where it is. I believe it's freeware and they have plenty of interesting other freeware adventures as well. There is an enormous canyon somewhere in Arkansas, with a lovely 15,000 foot waterfall too :-) It's been mentioned in the forums so you should be able to do a search and find the co-ordinates. I flew a Piper Cub down to the bottom and back out again. There's a lot of circling. I suppose we could double the airspace if ATC were able to assign holding patterns at FL-150 :-lolBlairCYOW
September 12, 200421 yr I tried it, but I didn't download the TweakFS files...I just went to the airport in Guyana, took off, and found the hole. I went down it...and crashed into the side at -94314ft. Just ike Blair said, it a LOT of circling (and spiraling as you get towards the bottom...)
September 12, 200421 yr Hey all!Well I tried 'Journey to the center of the Earth' and found the bottom. I won't tell what it is, I was luckey enough to record it. The only thing is; I cheated a bit and used a blackhawk helecopter. It was in a full dive to the bottom! Not a hover.Wow!HuggsKittiex:)~ This system is: AMD 64 3500+ 939 ASUS A8V Deluxe with wifi GCorsair TwinX1024 3200 XL Pro 2 36gig W.D. September 12, 200421 yr Kittie, I too made it to the bottom, but this was many months ago. Yes, I too used a black hawk and boy was that a long descent! On an unrelated note where do you live? I took a look at your system specs and decided that I want your system! :-lol Actually I am going to build a rig almost exactly like it when I get back from Germany. I have to say that you have taste in what parts you buy. If you have any pointers or warnings about your system please let me know, it is always nice to have a little advance warning about what you are getting into. :-) Thanks,Philip Olsonhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
September 12, 200421 yr I got the download files and tried it out. There are two holes and I didn't know which one to use so I went with the first one I found which is the one surounded by the smaller spikes. It took a long time and I thought I was going to break my stick at one point. In any case you did better than me. I only made it to about 65000 ft before crashing.Jon
September 12, 200421 yr :( HuggsI'm north of you. When you hit Canada, go left, when you see the lights going dim, that's me as this computer takes a lot of juice. lol :-lol Well I'm really happy with the system, the only thing that I would recommend is to get a PCI sound card. I'm going out in a few weeks to pick up a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 zs. The onboard sound use resources that cuts into frame rate (not a lot) I average around 20-30 at busy airports on the ground with real weather and up to 60fps in the air with all the setting maxed, screen 1280x1024 4xAA.As far as taste goes, of course I have taste I'm a woman. lol:* HuggsKittiex:)~ This system is: AMD 64 3500+ 939 ASUS A8V Deluxe with wifi GCorsair TwinX1024 3200 XL Pro 2 36gig W.D. September 12, 200421 yr Are you sure that you are not either my sister or my mom? They both have exactly the same sense of humor that you do, very cool! Well since you now have given me detailed instructions on how to get to your house I guess that I no longer have to buy a new computer, you will give me yours, right???? :-lol Ahh, I really love Canada, I make about 4 or 5 trips up there every year, it is where I go to truly unwind. I go there because no one knows me there and no one can find me there! Since you are a Canadian, thank you for your hospitality, I am always treated very well when I visit, you should be proud of your country. I can tell you that almost every other country that I visit treats me terribly for the most part, as an American that is. I purchased an Audigy 2 several months back and it really did boost my frame rates, so yes, get one as soon as you can, you will not regret it! Well it sounds like I will be very happy with my new set up based on what you say. Just one question, what do you use for AI traffic, I assume you have it at 100 percent? Thanks in advance! I will have to concede that yes women have better taste than men in just about everything, but I am lucky though, my mom is an Interior Designer so she taught me a lot about taste in clothes, design, cars, etc, etc so I am no slouch either! :-lolTake care!Philip Olsonhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
September 12, 200421 yr On behalf of Canada, your welcome! :-wave Ha, well I'm not your sister or your mom but they must be cool by the sounds of it! lol As for the traffic, I use My Traffic 2004 at 100% and I also have alot of PAI (projectt AI - http://www.projectai.com/) Aircraft loaded in too. Between the two my airports are really busy! HuggsKittiex:)~ This system is: AMD 64 3500+ 939 ASUS A8V Deluxe with wifi GCorsair TwinX1024 3200 XL Pro 2 36gig W.D. September 13, 200421 yr Rick Wakeman? Dating yourself? That's like, uh, almost modern! C'mon, we all remember the movie with Pat Boone and James Mason, don't we? Well, don't we?
September 13, 200421 yr 96,000 in a spiralling dive in a Mooney. For some reason, this flight scares the daylights out of me.When you get down there, pause, go to external view then pan to look up from the bottom. I'm not claustrophic but this is like flying inside an artery. Glad I'm not a miner.
