My dreams came true- Boeing 777 (Ramzzess) at KLAS night landing!

Featured Replies

I have been flying FSX for about 18 months, and had made a substantial investment in both add-on software -and- hardware control surfaces. Yet tonight, I experienced a thrilling landing at Las Vegas McCarren that I NEVER had with FSX.

Flying the Ramzzess 777-200, cleared via PilotEdge realtime ATC for visual final approach runway 1L, I floated down at 140 knots and about 500 feet over the ground as I crossed over the freeway that winds around the airport and goes down the strip in Las Vegas.  It was a clear evening, and visibility was great.  The view of the traffic bustling along below the plane was mind-blowing - MANY TIMES superior to anything I ever saw in literally hundreds of flights in FSX.

In FSX at night, they paint pictures of cars of the streets, and then some cars and trucks drive over those painted-on cars... it's (politely) unattractive and unrealistic.  That's IF you can even stand the horrible hit to your frames rate to have a lot of lights on the ground at night!  Then there are the square L-shaped turns.  The traffic flow in X-Plane at McCarren was the closest I've EVER seen to real world.  Sure, it's still an animation, but it is MUCH more believable (to me) than what I had in FSX.

I am very appreciative of the hard work of LAMINAR RESEARCH and also RAMZZESS AVIATION - without them, I would not have realized my flight dreams... and all in 64-bits and stunning frames rates... WITH ALL THOSE CARS, BUSES, TRUCKS and TRAINS.  Did I mention the police cars with the flashing red lights?  WOW!  Best of all, the runways and airports look great from the air as you approach or depart.  In FSX I had a lot of shimmering issues with airports at night, especially KLAX and KLAS.

Throw in a touchpad device to run the FMC on (works great with the B777 by Ramzzess), along with the very fine Logitech G13 GamePad controller to handle your camera assignments, and you're golden!

Posts like yours make the community believe that XP is superior to FSX. I'm happy that you had a nice flight in XP, but why do you and many others tell us how bad FSX is? Enjoy it, enjoy your nice cars but I could give you a few reasons why I would never fly to LAS with XP again.

Well, without your FSX comments I would have tried to duplicate your moment of joy. But to me it sounds like another XP is better than yours message. This is the XP forum, so why did you start talking about FSX?

You're right.  Heck, I'm going back to the hangar.

Why are the FSX evangelists so protective of FSX on an X-Plane forum? Robert was merely expressing his opinion on what he believes are some of X-Plane's advantages over FSX, on an X-Plane forum. I for one enjoy Robert's posts and have lurked here for many years, but am so tired of reading X-Plane bashing posts in this forum I thought I would come out of hiding and post. Keep posting your updates Robert, the silent majority do appreciate them.

Sorry, but the silent majority is not even here. The silent majority enjoys FSX and does not even care if there is a new XP version or not. Those who care, own and monitor XP are here.

It looks that XPX is so bad, that when a moment of satisfaction is shared, we are told "wow, that was cool and FSX is bad because..."

Share what you like, maybe we all can benefit from it. But many XP users own and like FSX too, some even more.

I checked out LAS in both sims today. Do it and compare or do not compare and like what you have.

Guys, to a certain extent I have to agree with Ralf. Robert, your a great asset to the X-Plane community, but if x-plane is to succeed on its own, then the attitude has to be 'fsx who?'

Or to put is another way, X plane Is a Great sim. It has its faults, and lets be honest, every sim does. But when it comes to accentuating the positives, there's no need to drag fsx into the to prove x plane's superiority. All it does Is cause a good thread about how you enjoyed your flight to degrade into yet another 'xpx-fsx' thread. And truthfully, it's been done to death.

So Robert, keep posting, keep enthusing, but tell us about x-plane and leave fsx in the nursing home, poor old thing. :-).

Best wishes,

Jess B

Jessica, thanks for your words of wisdom. And I like those cars too. If I had a wish, I would take those cars and Jason's planes and would move house to the nursing home, lol.

I've been runnning FS9 for years with tons of add-ons and it's great, most of all very stable on my powerful PC with multi-monitor arrangement.  I just got XP10 this week and I absolutely love it, yes it lacks in some areas, but the stability of the program is what matters most to me, graphics are great with very good frame rate.  I love the physics as well, taking off, flying  and landing in weather.  So now I have 2 stable sims to fly with, there is a bright future for XP I'm sure of it, companies are coming on board and that is what is going to change things.  I applaud Carenado, just got the Baron 58 and it's very well done up. Lastly XP actually have live support for its product  and pretty darn good at that.

the main issue I find in XPX is the lack of good aircrafts with great VC... I bought the JAR Design A320 and i find it far behind the Airbus X from Aerosoft (which will even be itself far behind FSlabs...)

too much, too soon....

But I have also bought bad aircrafts from others as well, regardless of the sim, my Carenado B58 for XP is awesome.
