A new (NGX) version of the wonderful MD-11

Featured Replies

There is a reason why Captain Mike Ray wrote the "How to fly the 700s Boeing Aircrafts"  they are all similar from the flight control flow.  The MD-11 offers something else completely.  It is an aircraft that is ahead of its time.  PMDG did it because they wanted to do it and it shows.  It's really is too bad that it does not receive a V2 treatment.  But business needs to see return on capital.  The MD-11 may be a labour of love, which unfortunately did not pay enough.  I have had enough OOM error with the NGX that I am now thinking twice about getting the 777.  The MD-11 displaced the Level-D 767 as my medium to long range bird.  Oh well nostalgic fool like me!

It's funny to see people saying that PMDG did not make any money of the MD11, just because they view a video or heard it in the forum.

Me, i go with facts. So PMDG please show me your bank accounts and ill prove you wrong!!!! I'm sorry PMDG but this is the only thing i do not buy from you!

The way every body acts in this forums are definitely PMDG addicts, my guess everyone here owns the MD11 and more and if you don't have it, is because you never own a PMDG aircraft.

I got the MD11 not because i like it, i got it because it was PMDG and is one of my favorite aircraft now.

It is not fair and very selfish not to update certain products (just because) for the loyal and proud customers. see it for your self  http://forum.avsim.net/topic/403269-md11-still-worth-it/page-

maybe with a nice upgrade you may get new customers and Hopefully one day you may reconsider.

Can you give more detailed examples that I can try to reproduce? I don't remember ever seeing this as a problem.

Fly a STAR with an "AT or BELOW" restriction at a specific constraint and end with an RNAV landing, preferably one with high minimums.

Ships are cooler that you think.

Danny,

Ryan himself said, in this very thread, that the sales didn't go as expected. He also mentioned that the majority of their customers is not on these forums.

Buying every product PMDG makes, makes you part of a minority (I'm part of it too). But if the benefits don't outweigh the cost, they're not going to do it, they're a company, not a charity.

Are you on something? You are the one calling someone a liar, the onus is on you to proove your claim, not on them to defend themselves. What evidence do you have that the MD-11 was such a hit? What lists have you seen that showed it as a best seller? What information do you have about how much it cost PMDG to produce?  How can you possibly know whether PMDG made enough money from it to make it worth their while? And you have the nerve to call them selfish for not wanting to spend even more money on it?

Paul Smith.

Yeah, it was mentioned at the end of the 3rd or the beginning of the 4th video, if I recall correctly.

As much as I wish it would happen, I don't see it happening.  I have the CS and it drives me nuts from a systems perspective.  The Wilco is decent, but a killer on frames.

I see. Too bad it is. The thing about CS is that they make the things I miss with PMDG and vice versa. Such as an animated LD loader to go with the Md-11F main cargo door, and since AES and GSX dont work too well with a freighter, I just leave that door closed.

Had the Wilco on FS9.. Did not bother to buy the evolution since i struggled ALOT with the LNAV on FS9 version.

I did, sort of.  I had a friend in Hommersåk, so I would visit her and stay there for a few months at a time.  My family is from somewhere up north, but it's some tiny town and I'm not close enough with them to visit

WOW. You have been to Hommersåk, of all places in the world:-).. Internet shure makes the planet smaller.

(And so would a MD11V2 have done  )

(plus, north of the AC, I'm not sure I'd want to - haha).

Haha! I did my military duty in the air force above the AC.. Beautiful scenery, terrible and dark dark winters!

The MD-11 will not be remade, the PMDG level WXR is impossible in FS, the 777 will not have 2D cockpit and there is no PMDG Airbus planned.

Is that so hard to understand?

Bodø? Bardufoss? Noe annet?

As I recall, the MD-11 was the result of a poll made by them as to what they wanted to do next. RSR jokes that he sold more than McDonnell Douglas did and I reckon he's probably right. Even now they continue sales of it, because it is so popular with us and probably the most technical achievement of ANY other aircraft simulation.

PMDG, you made a good choice developing this aircraft but I don't think you realise how many sales you will total eventually.  So, I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that this sim will eventually be recognised for the quality that it will always be.

Unique.

Actually, the MD11 wasn't originally an PMDG project, Bill Grabowski started working on an MD11 panel back in 2004 I think and Michael Frantzeskakis then joined him. PMDG then brought the project inhouse and the two talented developers became part of the PMDG team. How much of their work that is actually in the final work, I don't know but it's a darn nice bird!

Personally I am very much content with everything about the MD11 and have never felt the need for any update whatsoever! I love the VC and while it certainly isn't as good as the NGX - it's a after all a whole new generation - it has so much atmosphere that even the NGX lacks or any other ac add-on. Bugs? Haven't noticed any really although some MCDCU operations certainly has me wondering whether I am plain stupid or why can't I get it work as I want. I could use a Do What I Mean-button!

Although there will be no more updates to the MD-11, nice addons like the just released TSS PW4060 soundpack keep the thrill level high for me.  On my first flight with it, my hotel phone rang and it was the front desk wanting to know if my dishwasher or heater was making excessive noise.  I quickly said my dishwasher was on and I would "turn it off".  What that really meant is I had the 4060's rocking the subwoofer too hard, so I relocated it where it wouldn't bother the guest in the room below.

Meanwhile, I'm going to keep on keepin' on in the 11!!

Man...

It was so super selfish of BMW to not provide me with the new double VANOS they came out with in 96 for my 93 3-series...

Perhaps it's because software is intangible that people seem to get a blurry vision about what is and isn't fair.

Same thing over at A2A with their P-47. It is an awesome airplane, but it's accusim component lacks some of the goodies that the newer string of A2A fighters do.  Folks have asked A2A to update it, which would require a major rebuild.   This would take time and resources away from other projects.  It is still the best damn P-47 and R2800 simulation out there.  I can really understand A2A's position on this.

The MD-11 is the best MD-11 simulation available, and the best long haul simulator available until 777, even after then, it will still be excellent.  The VC isn't that bad.  Just load up 747v1 and compare the two...and 747v1 is still very good too despite her age.

Cheers

I am in this topic to defend my values and to respect some degree of differences.

look around this vast world and understand that is so messed up. But at the same time is worth believing in.

If you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible one.
